I plan on getting some to keep around but I also don't want to medicate if it's not needed. We have mRSA due to over use of medication and antibiotics, and I don't want to give my chickens something similar.

That is a good point. I’m not a fan of treating chickens with antibiotics unless I know what the problem is. Some may get better without them.
