Instead of Pine Flakes...?????

I'm so DONE with pine shaving/flakes. They get in the waterers necessitating water changes. They get in the feeders all the time. What do you all use successfully instead of shavings or flakes? I have 20 2 week old chicks in a Rubbermaid container and am TIRED of constantly cleaning them out of the feeders/waterers.

Give them more space and raise the feed and water off the ground.

I use 2"x 6" wood blocks under my waterer and feeder. I raise higher as they grow.

I had to put my feeder and water up on scrap 2" thick wood. Big improvement

I have zero chicken experience yet, but my plan is puppy pads. (More expensive, for sure, but it's a temporary situation.) I'm hoping paper towels/pads will help keep the dust down when I have them in the house.
