I got my Cackle shipping email just now!!! First chickens--can you tell?

Our coop is built and all set up, but I have hooks, cable, and netting yet to install as a cover, and some chicken wire to separate the grow out pen. Two pop doors, one for the main, and one for the pen. Poop decks w/ their sand/PDZ mix, and 360 ft of run. Should be good...shouldn't it? I ordered 15 chicks and will likely get a few extras.

Here's the little enclosure for their first few days in the house---then off to their coop!

Got a little crazy with fingerpainting in the coop. Maybe they won't mind.

Also: I made a sign for the nest box area--not that they'll read it.

WOW!!! Gorgeous coop! Can I ask you 2 questions? 1. What did you put down under the coop? Looks like crushed rock? What is that for, drainage? I'm thinking of doing a shed conversion and wanting to try to figure out what to set it on and also for the run. Question 2....How did the water thing (it's heated, right) hold up for the winter??

Thanks! The coop/ run itself is set just on dirt. Then we did a 1' perimeter with hardware cloth on the ground all around it. Then we covered that with gravel. It probably does help with drainage but that wasn't its main purpose. The inside of the run is wood chips (which I love). And the hen house has hemp bedding.
The waterer was amazing during the winter! It worked without any problems. It has an exterior fish pond pump that circulates the water through the system, and a livestock heater in the rain barrel to keep it above freezing temperature. The pump finally died and needed to be replaced but it was running continuously for 1.5 years so that's not bad. They're also pretty cheap and available on Amazon.

May I ask for a few bits of data and possible pics or screenshots?

To see how you setup the heater in the barrel (looking down, with lid off?)
How long did it take to teach the flock to uses that watered design?

How well do you like the tred-pedal feeder? Has it been “worthwhile” do you have rat/mice issues?

I’m going to be running a water feed to the Run/coop this late summer/ early fall. And likely going this route. I’d Really like to geek-out of how you setup the pond pump too!

I have a Koi pond and have tinkered with it the last 3 years trying different mod’s. So IF I can like it then, I can make it work in two variations…

Sorry I can’t post pics, I am out of town. But the whole waterer system was purchased as a kit from Carolina Coops which was much easier than buying the individual components. Then I just purchased a standard livestock tank heater to put in the barrel. You just plug it in and then throw the heating coil in the barrel when the temperature starts to dip. The chickens knew right away how to use it. I love the treadle feeder. I originally purchased it because we had a persistent rat in the run who would pig out. It solved that problem, the chickens use it easily and I have to refill it much less.
Here’s the link for the watering system: Waterer
I have tried - with concerted effort in web open search’s & Amazon directly.

I can NOT find a exterior/external pump anywhere remotely similar in size as the model in your setup from that kit.

When you get home and it’s during the daylight hours… May I ask for a couple pictures of the power supply and a couple of the pump assembly itself to see if I can read any manufacture details in the extruded casing.

Please and thanks in advance.

I’m planning on a much more significant setup for both flocks. And I don’t need the pump that’s larger than a football.

Hi!
Here's a link to the pump I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FXDUQR0?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details

I will try and take some pictures when I get home anyway.
That’s great. The Amazon pictures are full of great details. Now this is very interesting, it’s NOT a self-priming pump so it’s actually akin to the paddle-wheel and not a *true* pump. Thanks for helping reply so quickly too!

Ya’know… it’s so odd that my searches NEVER raised this one!
