International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

check out this 12 month old hen. She's a regular brick! I'll forgive her lack of silver hackles!

Finally one of #8's babies is big enough to start seeing some potential. Her eyes are marbled and dark which looks to be quite common in my line C and the blue coppers too. The common denominator there is both my blue copper line and my C line share blood from the B line. The dark and marbled eyes is a throwback courtesy of my original line B (FRF) cock bird, Mud. He carried the genes for dark/marbled eyes even though he had nice clear eye color. I'll get it sorted out one of these days. Just something else to work on.

Anyhoo.. sorry to ramble.

Took a few pictures this evening. Even though the cockerel I was going to butcher this weekend is aggressive I am having second thoughts. He is a tank of a rooster.. an absolute beast. I was upset at him because we used to be friends and now he attacks me, but Im tough and can handle it. He's a butthead so if he stays his name will be Butthead. Griffin, my yard rooster helps keep him in check but he is still getting bold and mean.

He has beautiful mass and color, but his tail is creeping south. Still no white underfluff.

Just look at the back on this beast! Pictures dont do his size justice. He's a hoss.

And here is Skint, the cockerel who got the chunk of skin torn off his neck by a gamecock. He is the full brother to Butthead. This sounds like a redneck drama series doesnt it??

He has white under his hackle, but better tail angle. He isnt as big as Butthead either. His tail isnt nice and wide open like Butthead's. But he does have good back width. He inherited his sire's halo. I may keep them both free ranging as spares. You never know when disaster might strike.

View attachment 1448007 View attachment 1448008 View attachment 1448011 I moved everyone into a new house with a run. The one older Blue Copper is a bully. I hope after a while they will all get along. I will watch them closely. I need the other house for my Blue Birchen. When they come in a week or so.

My older grow outs were bullies to all the little ones too but they are co-existing fine now. I think yours will be fine together once the blue copper accepts the younger ones are now her flock.

I cant wait to see blue birchens!

I hope it works out. I will be shutting them up in the house at night. I am a little worried that she will hurt them by the time I open the door in the morning. It has been a long wait for the Blue Birchen. I hope they come soon.

Man he's stunning. Too bad he has a tude! I haven't been there yet. Not sure if it's cuz I handle all my Roos regularly or if it's cuz the breeder eats the rude ones before the replicate.

I think it's because the breeder eats the rude ones. Lol I have been known to make pets out of anything. I had a easter egger rooster. He was my baby! It was funny he would jump on top of my husband's head and crow. Then one day he attacked me. Then every time I went into the pen he attacked me and my husband. I had to carry something he was scared of to keep from being attacked. Finally my husband butchered him. We couldn't even eat him so we gave him to someone that would. I was heartbroken!
