International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Quote: I posed this question on a thread about pullets laying double yolk eggs and got a response that this should level out and is common. Don't know if it is the feed over here that makes it common. What I read on the thread from people that have experienced this is that it will level off in a month or so and I will get regular eggs. I just think it is odd that out of all the hens I have raised I have never had it happen until I got the Cuckoos.

In the US SOP white feathers are a fault and not a DQ. I know Chooks Man we go by the French SOP but.....

RedBank there not BUT . we work with a the Original standard so we don t get mixed up .

Like I said before we have to breed a breeders first before we tackle the show ring chooks .they are the easy one to breed .

chooks man

I really like this new way (for me) of thinking. They don't have to be perfect to begin with. I can work to make them better.

RedBank if we are going to call our selves breeders NOT a chooks keepers than we have think radical .

as long as we are not welling to breed a rabbit out of the chooks we ll be fine.

Rules of genetic .has to be respected to achieve the result we are looking for.

chooks man

Black and Blue copper marans should not have any white feathers . Black and copper nothing else .

white feathers could be bred out is not the end of the world ,just another fault we should breed it out.

easy to do; pick at lease one breeder without any white feathers and select from the progeny the ones that are pure black .( no white feathers )

the other best way to get ready of this white feathers is to breed from the old stock ( passed the second molt ) free from them.

Quote: Okay.... Okay..... I won't say it again. I pledge allegiance to the French SOP. You have to forgive me I have been brainwashed to cull every bird for some reason or another. No one ever said.... do this and fix them. At least not until now!

RedBank I do not kill chooks .I do breed them . watch what you are going to see in the F2 generation . that rooster worth all the money and the time I put on him . I believed on him .I saw something his breeder didn t see. here the F2 cockerels; some are silver cuckoo ,silver wheaten , cuckoo wheaten , silver barred wheaten etc........... all have nice comb and pretty eyes most ofthe F2 cockerels and pullets have a nice comb and great eyes.
What a nice prize for your hard work. Glad he was worth your efforts, hopefully one day I will be confident in my ability and take up a few other varieties of marans. The brown-reds are proving enough of a challenge when trying to mentally memorize and picture the standards.
