International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Feathers on the middle toe are fairly easy fix, and the white on the toe feathers can be causes by damage so it's hard to tell there. does he have white in the wings? Looks like he's got copper all down his chest, now most would tell you to stay away from that but in certain situations I wouldn't, Roosters with that copper leakage on thier chest will put color on overmelanized hens in one generation. That high tail will be the cause of more frustration than any of your other problems.

I agree that the high tail will cause more frustration than any of the other flaws. Boy don't I know that all too well! Jeeze high tails haunt my nightmares!

@Hensndoes make sure his females have low set tails and that should bring down the tail angle in a number of the offspring. You will still have some offspring that are high tailed like their father, but some will come with good tail angle if the females have good tails. You just have to hatch plenty and cull hard through them.

Okay so I'm going to tell a funny on myself. One of the pens of Game brood fowl that we were raising from this year haven't given up on their dreams of parenthood yet, and two of the hens in the pen were still laying after we turned the incubator off. So we decided to let one of them go broody and try to hatch some chicks. That was a good idea in theory until they both decided to go broody. They had been arguing over the eggs and had busted several in the process, making a mess all over the rest of the eggs (pretty typical when two hens try to co-broody). I went out tonight to remove one of the hens and the eggs so she could set in peace, but wanted to candle them first to see if any of the remaining eggs were developing. Mind you, this pen is 4x4x4 and I'm hunkered down over the roost with a mean ol' cock bird eyeballing me all the while. Well as I was holding one of the *BAD* eggs, the cock bird in the pen decided he had had enough of me intruding and went to peck at me, busting the stink bomb in the process.. spraying stinky rotten egg all over me and in my hair! Yes I stupidly left my hair down when I had the idea to do this. The egg went POW and scared the sh*t out of me!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

So after showering and washing my hair twice, I still feel like I stink like a rotten egg!!!! :sick:sick:sick:sick

Here are updated pictures of my favorite mahogany pullet from Sheraz. I really like how she is turning out and I think she will help correct halos and dark underfluff. Her type is lovely and she has the jet black underfluff I need so badly. :)

Poor thing, the things we tolerate for these chickens.

@Magnolia Hill mahogany can also be referred to as overmelanized. Sheraz's daughter doesn't have a lot of copper, but that is the reason I like her. What copper she does have in her hackle is dark and she will throw darker sons I'm hoping.

That what i was thinking, well i was talking to harvey the other day and we were discussing high tails. He was telling my about this girl in Kentucky that's got problems with that and that he was sending a her a cockerel. Im assuming he was talking about you, he sent me some pictures of that cockerels and he would go perfect with that hen. I hope it works out for you.
