International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Ok

That what i was thinking, well i was talking to harvey the other day and we were discussing high tails. He was telling my about this girl in Kentucky that's got problems with that and that he was sending a her a cockerel. Im assuming he was talking about you, he sent me some pictures of that cockerels and he would go perfect with that hen. I hope it works out for you.

Yep that's me! :D He is waiting on the weather to cool before shipping but that will help straighten out a lot of issues in my birds I think. Ive been trying not to get my hopes up because the way my luck runs the poor cockerel will get lost in the mail or something else will happen. When it comes to Marans, my luck hasnt been the greatest. I will most definitely post pictures when my cockerel finally arrives though. Im as excited as a kid at Christmas! Lol. I have several females I think will pair nicely with him. I'm still hoping one of my grow out cockerels turns out decent, I have several from Queen I have my fingers crossed on. They are still too young to tell much about. Harvey's cockerel I will use to create a new line separate from mine. Im definitely looking forward to it! :)

Well look here, you are not alone. I promise you that, i'm in the same boat dealing with those same high tails. I definitely think that cockerel will be asset to you. Maybe keep him in a separate line first and see if you like what they produce, i could definitely see some good cockerels coming off them. It could be game changer for you.

This little fella Is my best chance at getting that low tail, he Is over colored so I'll be pairing him with 2 or 3 of my slightly overmelanized lady's and pray they throw some nice cockerels.

Yeah his tail angle would make him a keeper at my house. Lol. With his lower set tail mated to females with good tails you should see a nice percentage of birds with good tail angles. Balancing him out with darker females should work out well.

I'm sure hoping he is a game changer. So far all my males have been a complete bust this year. Queen's sons are slow maturing and are taking their sweet time so it will be quite some time before I see how they're going to turn out.

I will mate Harvey's cockerel to a few select females and then mate his best daughters back to him, and then go from there. He will be the foundation bird of a line all his own. He has beautiful mass and topline. I'm very excited about him and I couldn't be happier. :)

I wish you the best with it, i'll be doing the same thing with mine, they are almost 7 months so if I'll be watching them real close these next few months. And praying.
