You said it. Those bloody combs! I got a couple others birds to work with that have little better combs but they have other issuess, thankfully none are to serious. Its just trying to find the balance. This fella here ill be running with some of my more overcolored hens with long flat backs. I just hate his short back and hightail. He got a fan blowing behind him so good tail looked higher in this picture, i'll get a couple better pictures when i get time.

I'll have about 5 different pens ill be working with next year. Every one of them will be for a specific problem and/or solution, and then I'll combine later on if need be.

line breeding is a best way to fix and get ready of any problem.

you are not too far ,work smart now .
you have some nice stock to work with .

for me personally I prefer to work with a faulty chooks .they give me hope and some thing to look forward to do .
with a fault less chooks .what i m going to do ? Showing maybe ?

I prefer breeding .

I get it, i'm not sure of showing myself. I got big plans this year and I do plan on starting to work on a special side project this coming year that should keep me busy. Im going to try and start a lemon cuckoo line of marans, I've always like the lemon cuckoo pattern but can find them it in marans. Just something to play with.

I hear you my friend .
need to find at least one bird with a normal comb .
if you start with a small comb will be easier to fix and work on it than a large comb /large comb is a trouble it self even when it is correct .

there is many other factor will affect the comb size =
1} summer heat .
2} indoor chicken .not enough exposure to the sun .

I can do nothing about summer heat!

I got the eggs from the flock with no exposure to the sun. at least I can fix this part.

Hi everyone, I just lost one of my white Marans cockerels. That only leaves me one for breading. I hope he makes it through the winter. I have been with family for two weeks now. I have one week left. I wonder how much my Marans will have changed after three weeks! Have a Blessed week everyone!

sorry to hear about your white cockerel .

in 3 weeks the chicks will be transformed . they grow and change fast.
