@Bantambird

if those hens are the mothers of your white chicks ,than it could be another explanation ;
if all the white chicks hatched are cockerels ,than I suspect one of the Splash hen carries the Dominant white genes as a single copy . so she could only pass down that gene to her son s .
if some of the white chicks are pullets ,than this theory is busted.

chooks man
The one that hatched last year is a hen now who the current owner is happily hatching chicks from. The chicks she's gotten have been blue/splash from the white hen.

good news .
my friend who I bought my marans pullets from in December . splash /dominant white and black copper . She agree to sale me all her white/splash stock .12 ,some Black copper .2 pullets .and she will tell me more this Saturday . I told her I ll take every single marans she want to sale .

She made my day .so happy .
last week I lost 4 chooks I got from her . Dominant white cockerel ,the Blue cuckoo cockerel .splash pullet and a black pullet . plus other layer hers . I lost them to the fox .

price to pay tell my little dog get bigger . the place is too big for just one dog .the Fox is too smart . I wish I can breed a dog as smart as the fox . just a wish .

here the photo of the chooks she want to sale me .some of them any way

can not download it .I ll try latter

sorry for your loss.

a friend of mine had 4 dogs in about 2000 sq m place, but it is in the mountain with a lot of big olive trees. a fox entered and killed a few hens. as my friend lives just across the road, she heard the noise and rushed there with the other 2 dogs. eventually 6 dogs managed to kill the fox. 2 jack russel terriers chased and cornered the fox and cane corso killed it. you need at least 1 small and fast dog.

glad to hear you are getting more good birds.

@Bantambird

this hen has a true Birchen marking .lacing on her chest all the way down .
love her tail .shape .length and Angle .
her lacing still have some Autossomal Red leakage . mossiness
her under fluff look white to me .should be light grey .

I do agree with the American who renamed the Birchen ,Silver Black or Black Silver .like Black copper . Not Birchen .
because both of them BC and BIR are Birchen family . never make sense to me why the Silver black is called Birchen .

is she related to your Rooster ?

chooks man
She's from the first group of chicks my husband bought from green fire, so she is likely related to Mr Big, but unrelated to the Jackson brothers. I'm sure Mr Big is the carrier, but he also seems to carry the extended black a bit too. I'm not sure why, but it seems funny to carry recessive white and extended black. Lol.

I m really confused my dear friend .
Blue /splash chicks hatched from a white hen .
white hen do not throw splash chicks .

what rooster did your friend used over the white hen to get Blue/Splash chick ? nothing make sense .

this white hen your friend is working with come out of what flock .{ I know it is your flock } but witch one .is the last flock a same to this year flock ?
I strongly think you are dealing with a Recessive white in your Birchen line .there is not another explanation for me .

I think you are confusing your self with all this genetic terminology . recessive white/ extended black and all the rest .
you need test mating to be able to establish what gene any bird is carrying .

who is the sire of this year white chicks?
who is a sire of the last year white chick ? and how is he /her related to the rooster you are using now { the one throwing white chicks}?

when breeding a person should know what egg come from witch hen other wise the result will be speculative .not good .

I do not breed any hen/pullet if I don t know her eggs colour/size /shape and weight .I don t leave any thing to chances .

Genetically speaking .the Extended Black E/E chook can carry the Recessive white or a Dominant white .
the Extended Black Dominant white chooks is the most dominant pattern known to us to this day .

some of the BC /BLC and Silver Black lucking the Autossomal RED and have extra Melanin . so they are black .

hope this will help you to get an idea what are working with .

@Bantambird

Mr Big is lucking the Autossomal Marking .Shoulder marking and the lancet .

I have been telling you guys not to breed from the rooster without shoulder marking , very very bad move .Except if we are breeding for mass .size and dark eggs colour .other wise the black shoulder rooster is not useful for us .throw many black pullet .

Jackson brother if I remember do have a nice shoulder marking and better silver .
let me know if I m wrong .

here one of my BC rooster a second generation bred from a black hen and a well marked BC rooster . 2 generation and the shoulders still black.
his grand Dam Sue was a black hen , mated her to a well coloured BC rooster Day Walker . I got Suemaya .black hen . mated her to BC rooster well marked Zambezi . they did throw all black pullet some with a minimum copper but all the cockerel where mostly black except this dude .
So Sue was a true Extended Black hen . test mating is a best tool to know your chooks genome .

the Extended Black is a dominant gene . most people are mixing it with a Melanised chook.

@TashaFrancois

those are a true gorgeous marans eggs . Wow .I m impressed .if you replace the 2 lighter ones with a dark egg you ll end up with a { Pannier D Or in France national marans show} Golden Basket .
now because your basket is mixed you ll get Silver or Bronze .still very good .many guys don t get nothing .
you should be very proud .

keep posting more photos of those eggs and the hens who laid them please .
