I gave away a cockerel who was born with a copper spot on his head. his wings have 2-3 white feathers, his feet are overfeathered and he is much smaller than marco.. he is marco and luna's full sibling but hatched separately (by a muscovie duck). and I gave him to nice people who love him.

that is a theory any way .the Melanin and the mahogany ( causing the bird to become black ) will convert the gold ( straw hackle ) to copper .

but we have to look at the other thing as well .we have to find a good match to yield a correct progeny .

Ask him to take photos of his flock ,so I can see .what could be done .

I will bring my camera when I will go there. the french eggs are under his broody and I hope will hatch around 2nd september.

I am going to make 2 new coops for black copper and silver cuckoo marans. I will be able to keep 15 birds of each variety. culls will move to olive eggers or layers.

good on you .15 birds each ,that is a great.

how big are you planing the size of each coop ?

you are going to be a busy marans breeder.

I have about 35 m2 available for both, so a bit more than 15 m2 each. about 4 m2 each will be covered and protected from sun, rain and wind, sleeping part will be raised so they can use ground at daytime. the same system I already have.

it seems I have another swimmer in my flock. I have just found an egg in a dish with water! my naked neck pullet kept looking for the place to lay an egg and she decided it was too hot so laid her egg in water, lol. this is her 5th egg and she has been moved from the araucana pen for being severely pecked on her neck. she laid her first egg in the run, second in the nest box, 3rd and 4th on the ground and finally in water

that enough for them ,you feeding them salad any way .
it is a good idea to have a sleeping part at the top so they can use the bottom as a shady spot .

your naked neck need help she can t make her mind . laying a egg in the water what she is thinking ? if she is thinking .I think the sun got to her head .
