Her a son .almost pure black .still carry some white ,the rest is absolutely gorgeous.

I m going to mate him back to his mam to work more on removing the white .

I m well happy with his tail.

here Black Mamba 2 ; ( his Father was Black Mamba )

still work in progress .another couples of years of work and I ll have a great Black marans with a great type and wonderful tail free from any white feathers. AND preserving the dark egg gene.

Black mamba 2 will make you very proud. How old is he now?

How old is he now?

Black Mamba 2 carry a truck load of a good marans quality .he still have fault ,but it is ok with me. I have a time needed to bring the best out of him in the breeding pen .

he is 11 month old now.

here how a plan to work with him = this year = test mating him too = I m going to cross him with =
1) back over his mam =to clear the white feathers and keep the solid color come from the E ( B/Mamba 1 carried the gene ) plus the dark egg color genes.
2) to a silver cuckoo = to produce pure black pullet carrying the E gene and back cuckoo cockerel .carrying the gene as well .
3) dominant white = to produce a pure white . I ll have a problem latter on with a dark shanks but it is workable .a lot quality are going to be created from this magic matting .

So he is going to be a busy boy this breeding season.
hopefully he will do a good job .

she is absolutely gorgeous ,marans type all over her.
chunky . wide, nice legs strait and well spaced .I can tell from the way she is standing .
deep chest

I ll wait tell I see a nice photo of her.

her tail is a late bloomer it is good to mate her to a early feathering type Black copper rooster to get SEX linked chicks.
all the pullets will be fast feathering ,they will show a tail at the 1 st week .
all the cockerels will be latter feathering type no tail tel latter.

easy way to sex the Black and Blue copper marans at a week old.

Very nice pullet. I am still confused about the "no" splash rooster but "yes" splash hen. I was able to sex my BCM chicks the first week. All the males had no tails.

RedBank you are not paying attention to what we said early on on the thread .

type from the hen=

color pattern from the rooster . Splash rooster hasn t got pattern . we can not see if he have a good /bad hackle color or lancets,, etc,..........
that is a reason we do breed from a splash rooster but we can breed from the splash hen .

this theory is only ofr color breeding not others traits.

I used my splash roos a lot last 2years over every varieties, because they had a superior body type plus really dark eggs,

Thanks Chooks man,

When I expressed regret over culling the nice Splash rooster I had, I must have gotten confused by your response. Maybe you meant it was not a good idea for me with my experience.
I am paying attention Maestro!
