International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

One judge and clerk admitted that they aren't too familiar with Marans, so they chose based on size, color, and feather condition.

Did you take any pictures? We love pictures!

Wanted to share pictures of my show birds. They arent my best, I admit but they were in the best feather condition.
Pics 1 and 2 are of the same pullet.

My birds didnt have enough copper to suit them. Better luck next year.

They are beautiful! They should have done well. Since the judges where not familiar with Marans. They went more by color then standards. So sorry

Those are 3 different pullets. Pic 1 and 2 are of the first pullet (red band), pic 3 is of the second pullet, and pic 4 is of the 3rd pullet (brown eyes).

Thank you. I hate that they didn't do better, but you win some and you lose some. Today was not my day showing Marans, but someday I'll have my day. I just have to keep working with them.

They didn't go by the SOP for Marans at all. Lots of copper, feather condition, and big birds is what the judges care about.

After culling I ended up with 33 Marans total. Out of 33 there are 7 White Marans hens/pullets. I put those 7 White up for sale. That will bring me down to 26. I think I am having Marans withdrawal!!! I may need intervention! Just breathe! Lol

Thank you very much for saying that! I am proud of them. One show and two judges' opinions are not going to put me off my chickens.

Lol I need an intervention too. I am a Marans hoarder. I need to get to culling but I keep procrastinating.
