Based on the quality of his copper, I wouldnt imagine him having white underfluff. I would be very surprised if he did. My birds with halos have white while the cockerels with deeper copper color dont. Or so far anyway. I checked SW (deep even copper) a month ago and he didnt have it then. Seems like I checked Dark Angel around the same time and he didnt have it either. He also has deep copper. I cant remember if I checked Vortex or not.

Awe they're adorable. You have so many chicks! And Marans eat like there is no tomorrow. I bet you go through the chick feed quick. Lol

my chooks feed get delivered by truck ,every week . bedding too .
I learned if spend the money on a good feed ,a ggod dry bedding and a larger space for the chicks when they are young .I don t have to deal with any sickness . healthy chicken I ever had .I will keep improving .
I will sale most of them in the end ,so I will get my money back . and I will eat most of them any way . me and my dogs we love eating marans cockerels @ 6 months old .so we are keeping ours eyes on the bad ones .the dogs are saying they can eat them now ,they don t need to wait tell 6 months .hahhahaaaaaaaaaa.

there is not relation between the white underfluff under the hackle the hackle colour .
I have seen Solid black marans or not marans rooster with a white underfluff under the hackle .
it is a genetic mutation .almost like a Splash but just affect the underfluff .\not a feathers . different type of parasitic white .

Here is the cockerel that hasnt had a tail. I think the pullets keep eating the blood feathers and preventing him from growing it in. I may have to pen him up a while so he can grow it in. I've been calling him no tail.

I really like him because of his brick shape and mass. His color isnt bad either other than his halo. He has some white underfluff under the hackle only. He is a nice wide bird and very easy to handle.
