International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I checked out the cockerels' hackles. There were 3 out of the remaining 7 with dark underfluff and no white. Only one of the birds with a halo have dark underfluff. I was very pleasantly surprised. SW has dark underfluff, and so does Dark Angel. Vortex unfortunately has white underfluff.

I havent gotten a chance to check Prince or Duke yet but I will tonight.

This cockerel is the only one with a halo that has dark underfluff. I dont think we named him. This is an old picture I have previously posted, but I am reposting to illustrate which bird I am referring to as he doesnt have a name yet.

Here is the cockerel that hasnt had a tail. I think the pullets keep eating the blood feathers and preventing him from growing it in. I may have to pen him up a while so he can grow it in. I've been calling him no tail.

I really like him because of his brick shape and mass. His color isnt bad either other than his halo. He has some white underfluff under the hackle only. He is a nice wide bird and very easy to handle.

you are correct ,his body type is stunning .but if he has a white underfluff under his hackle than he has to go .

Vortex too out .if he has a white underfluff .
underfluff white under the hackle is the worst thing you work with .

I ll wait tell you check Prince and Duke .this problem has to be fix now ,not later ,

So are they wheaten, salmon, or black tailed buff? You have so many varieties, it's amazing how you keep them all straight.

he is Malika s son . great news .so Malika s is not a carrier .great stuff .
her boy is going to stay never mind Halo , easy stuff

However, I am still left with 2 good cockerels with dark underfluff to work with, Dark Angel and Dark Halo (SW will not be bred). I am going out now to check Prince and Duke. I m so pleased that Dark Angel is free from the fault .because colour wise he is the best ,plus comb too .
you do not need 100 cockerels . only few but the best of the best of what you produced this year .
next year they progeny will be better .

Dark Angel and Maharaja staying . like this you only have to watch for dark eyes ,very easy and halo hackle . nothing else to worry about .

Please tell me Prince is free .fingers cross .I don t think so ,because Malika s son hasn t got it . Prince and Malika are sibling .

Unicorn is Golden Salmon /Wheaten plus 1 DW gene .she is Red Pyle
DW is BTB { Wheaten based }
so they progeny will be a mixture of Wheaten .Salmon .BTB and DW . all look a same .one molt .

I need all those varieties . it is a Marans stud I m trying to build . home of all the marans varieties .all correct and all lay dark eggs .

Prince has white underfluff under his hackle. Duke has none.. he's completely free from white.
