International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Breeding Solid Black marans from Black Mamba and his progeny .4 cockerels and 10 nice pullets .
BM will be mated again to Dalakhania .they produced a best looking pullets of this season . I want to produce more of her type .
plan to breed a cockerels = name them cockerels progeny.
I will mate them to silver cuckoos pullets .have enough to make few pens .4 trios .they are not related .
all the cockerels from this mating will be Dark cuckoos and all the pullets will be solid black .
keeping only the best ones .
plan to breed a pullets= name them pullets progeny.
will pair them to a dark cuckoo cockerel .3 of them enough to make few breeding pens . not related. half of they progeny will be dark cuckoos the other half will be solid Black.
I will hatch 200 chicks next Spring .100 from each cross or 25/30 chicks from each cockerel. that will give me a lot cousins lines to work with .
this is my goal for this year .breeding my foundation breeders stock .

when I establish my Marans lines .finished the first half of the book ,talked about chooks genetic ,and how I started marans breeding ,
now I m writing the second half .about how to build chooks lines from scratch . I need to write about my own experience not copying some else work .
I think 2 or 3 years from now ,should be ready .
if I don t manage to breed my own lines ,than it is no point writing about it . too many books out there .

I have 1 bc roo and a few black hens. that is all left after I lost my marans that I wanted to breed. let's see what I will get from these. the roo is colourful, he should put some colour to his progeny. I also hope to get dark cockerel so that I can get solid black marans as well.

sorry to hear that .so you lost all the cuckoos you bought . we always loose those chooks .
1 BC rooster and 2 Black hens will help you to build your flock again . who old are they ? what sort of eggs the hens lays ?

I have dark cuckoo roos and black hens. I will use them for olive eggers this year. I could put a marans hen with them but they have copper leakage as they came from a mixed colour flock.

Ah I see .
if you want to breed a solid black than you have to use the dark cuckoo rooster over a black hen . even with a copper leakage they will manage to throw 25% solid black chicks

Ah I see .
if you want to breed a solid black than you have to use the dark cuckoo rooster over a black hen . even with a copper leakage they will manage to throw 25% solid black chicks

I will give my dark cuckoo roo with copper leakage to a friend of mine who has a gold cuckoo hen. I will use another roo, with little leakage (dark blue cuckoo) and a black hen. looking forward to hatch solid black and blue.

I will also get some bcm from a fb friend. he has huge birds with nice copper that lay dark eggs. tails are a bit high but my marans should help with that.
