Thanks so much. I am going to get updated pics of each chick individually in the next couple days so that I can track their growth and development more closely and I will post them here.

Hello all! I hatched out 6 BCM chicks last night. 1 is clean legged and 1 has webbing between the middle and outer toe (or maybe it’s fused?). Are these immediate culls?

I wouldn't use it as a breeder. I had one hatch in my old line in both feet. It couldn't walk. I watched a video where they took sharp surgical scissors and cut it. I did both his feet. Barely bleed just held pressure on it a while and bandaged it. Chooksman can give you insight he is the pro. I would think it would be hereditary.

clean legged is not immediate cull. I don't know for the other one, poor thing.

Ok, so what instances would you end up using a clean legged bird in a breeding program? I’ll grow it out, because if it’s a pullet she can go in the olive egger pen.
As far as the one with the webbed/joined toes, it doesn’t seem too bothered by it, so I guess I’ll grow it out in case it’s a pullet she can go in my layer flock. I’ve actually had one from Greenfire’s line hatch out with the outer toe completely missing and that one I did humanely cull because it was having trouble getting around and I believe had a slipped tendon as well.

Ok good to know. I’m going to assess if I need to do that or not today.

I will use clean leg bird in my breeding program if they are of superior qualities .
her a cockerel 9 months old .gorgeous body type /mass and every thing else but he is clean legged bird .will mate him to a well feathered hen. not a big deal .
