Not all of Antonio sired hens have those problems so I can't negate the mother hen's contribution or that the combination Antonio/hen just was not good. Some of Antonio's hens were very nice. Monique commented on one and said she was very nice. I needed an opinion on roosters and you were gone. I asked about which one to keep. In the picture I sent the pullets were also visible. She said the pullet in the group picture was very nice. Antonio killed my best rooster in that hatch.no mass no dark eggs .they are a daughters of Antonio ?

Well my flock of Birchen are sold. He is fixing his pen but will be done in about a week. That will give me a few eggs till then.
Last couple years I have kept the older chicks in one section of the wood shed until they are old enough to go in with the adults. We are moving wood and going to close it off. It worked but I was always worried the wood might fall on them. That will be a section 9ft x about 21ft. I have some cages to put in there for small chicks. They where homemade rabbit hutches. My only problem is my husband wont let me get rid of the turkeys and they are in Blazes pen. If I took Blaze out I wouldn't ever be able to reintroduce him.well happy for you .
nice to see you focusing your energy and space to the variety you like . uniform flock layers and breeders .all Blue and Black copper .
here a trick if you want your breeders to live longer and stay healthier , separate hens from rooster after breeding .
when you finish breeding all the breeders hens will go with a layer flock and the breeders roosters should be penned together tell the next breeding season .
for this method to work you need .
1 big pen for a layer hens = you have one .
1 pen for a grown up chicks = you have one .
2 small pens for breeding = you have those too .{ when finish breeding use one of this pens to keep the breeding roosters .the second pen to keep the young cockerels }
