Split Hackle Marking SHM is what you guys call it Halo .hackle .
Darn Angle is a carriers but he has a good copper almost uniform .

the black stripe in the middle of the feathers is called the Flames . DA has a great Flames .. the flames should not be too gross covering all the feather ,just a thin stripe bordered with copper . Like DA
Dukes and Dark Halo both have SHM . not DA

I took some random pictures of the two oldest groups. I think the mossy spots on the BC pullets have mostly disappeared already. One of the 3 BC pullets she was clean to start with. I have it logged.

They could carry mossy gene though. Some of the BC chicks where mossy. Looks like it may be molting out. Maybe not all of them are carrying the mossy gene IDK.

I keep telling my friend .the mossiness in the chicks will molt out .same as the white lacing we see some times in BC chicks .molt away .

Awful news.
My birds have MG.
So far we have culled the egg flock. They were extremely sick one by one.

Tomorrow we will cull all the beautiful marans. I did cull 2 that has been suffering for a while now. Lethargic, fluffed up, gasping.... Saw the bubbly eyes and culled them today.

I think illness came in with the shipped marans chicks. I had put them with the newly hatched ones all together. One blcm was sneezing coughing and i thought it was just shipping stress. I didnt know. All the years of bird raising and ive never had this happen.

No other marans are showing symptoms but they will all be carriers i assume.

I have the legbars still in the brooder so they should be ok, that second dozen of local marans eggs due to hatch this week.

If i clean out the big coop and bleach everything, then in a couple weeks i can put these remaining ones out.

This is awful. I will admit, i cried.

I feel you pain .it is the worst thing I have been dealing with . all by birchen chicks over 100 all diet from it,none left .they parents stock must had it . they pass it to they chicks through the eggs .

good cleaning plus you need to give the area some times to rest .you can move the healthy chicks to a new different area far from the old one if you can .

for me this year I will start vaccinating my chicks ,lost a lot this year .not a good practice .
