International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

But the goal is to not have any mossy correct Even as chicks?

what it matter is how they look as adult not as chicks .
chicks hatch down is a indication of what genes the chicks is carrying that all .
mossy chicks mean they have enough or extra copper that all . they are not a cull when young .

Split Hackle Marking SHM is what you guys call it Halo .hackle .
Darn Angle is a carriers but he has a good copper almost uniform .

the black stripe in the middle of the feathers is called the Flames . DA has a great Flames .. the flames should not be too gross covering all the feather ,just a thin stripe bordered with copper . Like DA
Dukes and Dark Halo both have SHM . not DA

Ok I had that completely misunderstood then. Thank you for clarifying that! :)

Yes I certainly need to correct the halos in my birds. Dark Halo is the worst but he has the type, top line, and eye color I need. I can forgive his halo for that. Lol

all our marans are work in progress ,we are in the stage we can t afford losing any good traits ,so we can allow some faults in the bird and breed it out later ,
top line ,tail ,mass .size , good head are all qualities Dark Halos possess , those qualities could not be neglected has to be bred true .

hatch and keep pullets from your line this year if you can , get 2 BLC cockerels from @marchick and restart a new lines from them . I think will work great .I know both of your lines ,so I can see they are compatible .

I feel you pain .it is the worst thing I have been dealing with . all by birchen chicks over 100 all diet from it,none left .they parents stock must had it . they pass it to they chicks through the eggs .

good cleaning plus you need to give the area some times to rest .you can move the healthy chicks to a new different area far from the old one if you can .

for me this year I will start vaccinating my chicks ,lost a lot this year .not a good practice .

It makes me feel better that even you have experienced this. Thank you.

But how long to wait? I have no room for any more coops. I do have 2 coops that are new and never been used but the run is contaminated.

I have read 3 days and i have read 3 months after disinfecting before using again. Not sure which info is correct.

I can keep them inside for a while but they will be growing and its summer here. Good for young chicks but my legbars are 2 1/2 weeks already.

keep them inside the new coops tell the run get disinfected by the son . clean all the feathers give it a good clean .if it is sunny where you are ,you only need 3 to 4 weeks to be safe .

Sounds like a fabulous plan. And the birds I got from HM are related to marchick's birds so it wouldn't be completely outcrossing. I think it would work out great. :)

that correct . they will breed well together because they have different traits ,even they are from a same line as origin . yours have something added to them to them .
it is form of line breeding any way will work .

Duke s managed to throw nice pullets .
Jaspper @marchick managed to throw correct cockerels and now his son Blaze is proven to throw correct chicks .
so a blend of those 2 lines should produce a correct all rounder marans type choks .
