International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Really nice birds pics does not ever mean really nice genes. These are the pullets I posted. Will keep them hope they lay dark eggs.

wow the big pullets is bang on the money type wise .she only need to be mated with a over colored rooster or a rooster with a great chest .
the 2 young one ,they have a long back .wider shoulder .correct legs coloring and feathers .

Rooster like Claude from RedBank will be great with them .100% great progeny .

I ll breed from a big pullet for sure the other 2 are younger ,need to mature .

Really nice birds DOES mean really nice genes. You have copper.... you have long backs..... you have feathered legs. Need better pictures to comment more.

fully agree with RedBank we are breeding not showing ? so the fault is going to be corrected not rejected .other wise we ll have no chooks in our pens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Little Peddler birds are just the most beautiful BCM I have ever seen. She started with three birds. I am sure they were not perfect. That fact and Chooks man have convinced me I need to learn to be a better breeder and not to be on a never ending quest for better birds. Some breeders think that withholding good birds from people just starting out is a way to keep them from having BCM.... producing bad birds. In truth.... there are already plenty of people just making chickens..... educate, share birds and knowledge.

That correct RedBank .

peoples bred a show bird they did not go to the forest and catch it.

breeding come before showing .you guys have to understand that .stop thinking about showing and start putting your breeding plan together for the future so you all can have a gorgeous chooks after few years of hard work .

doesn t come just like that .there is some work involved and planning in you want to have some chooks to show in the future .

Chunky hen has yellow feet. The other girls have a wiry tails. I plan on keeping these three pullets they are just 20-24 weeks old. No eggs yet. It is all about the egg color right. I want to breed Black Copper Marans to SOP. I have a processing guy 3o minutes away that does 200-300 game hens every week, he does what ever I bring him $4 each. I live in Eastern Washington and near a lot of wheat fields. My feed is cheap.

close photos of them individually . I can t see a yellow feet . any way is a recessive gene easy to breed out .

you don t seem to happy will your little girl ,that not fair .they are young and gorgeous,

don t let peoples put you off about your chooks.

There is a lot of good information on here about breeding to the SOP.... but breeding to the SOP doesn't mean you take perfect birds and make more perfect birds. A couple of us go on the French version of BYC. They have some beautiful birds but they are also dealing with the same problems we are. Little Peddler posts the faults she is currently seeing in her birds. You have a great set up to breed lots of birds and cull lots of birds to get down to exactly what you want to see in your yard. You have a man who will cull and cheap feed. A Chicken Ranchers dream.

Can't wait to see some eggs. Glad you have visited our thread. We have all been busy with hurricanes, new ranches, school and life but we have some good discussions here and we support each other.
