International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Kayla, I am most worried about mossy and parasitic white. I think it's going to be a problem for me for years to come. I hope I don't add bad things to your flock!

Parasitic white is already in my birds. I got 3 or 4 mossy chicks last year. Nothing new for me. :) I need to improve shoulder color in my line badly. Your birds have lovely shoulder color. It is the perfect solution.

Ok, I just want to be completely upfront on things I see in them. Make sure you are aware.

I appreciate that! I would be happy and very grateful to have one of your cockerels. :)
Next thing is figuring out when and out of which batch. These are the hottest months to ship. That's not good. September would probably be cooler. What state are you in? I can't remember. I will need a shipping box and figure out paperwork.

The youngest batch is 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 weeks old. I see 2 older BC cockerels both mossy. So far Black jack is the only BC cockerel not mossy. Still have hope on the youngest batch. I find it more difficult when there are 30 chicks running around to see flaws. Not that we can tell much from these pictures but pictures anyways.

He is mossy though! I don't know if it will grow out. The other BC with Black Jack. I think he is still mossy. He has shafting also. I will get a picture of him and post in a few minutes. At what age should mossy grow out?

Yeah color and type are most important to me this year. I would love to see improvement in color in the cockerels.

if you want to have color in the cockerels shoulder ,than you have to work with a hen that have a complete hackle marking . you have few in there that I think they will produce well marked shoulders .
and if you want to have a cockerels with a complete shoulder marking not peppering type than you have to work with a hen that have a complete hackle PLUS dotted chest with copper .

when breeding for a complete body pattern ,we have to to make sure one of the breeding pair { Rooster or Hen} have a chest marking . not both .

4 months is a good time to have an idea how colorful the cockerels will be .
you don t have a over colored hens . so I will not worry about the mossines at the moment .
if both Hen and Rooster are over colored .yeah I will be worrying . you don t have to worry take my world . I have worked with a 1000 and 1000 marans chicks .I have seen it all .

if you manage to get 2 stunning BC cockerel from Blaze I think will be great .
2 BC cockerels from Jaspper and you will be on top of your breeding program .
