Ok, so I never do this so correct me Chooksman if I am wrong. I don't like to reply. Since chooksman is the expert but I am going to take a stab at it. It will also work Blue cock over Black hens. To get the best Blue. Becauce blue doesn't breed true Blue X Blue you will get Blue, black and splash. This pairing will also produce various shades of blue. Not consistent. Not good! Now the big debate some say not to keep BC from BC X BLC that the black won't be deep black. It will ruin your BC forever. Not true I have done it. My Blaze is proof. He came from Blue X Blue. He is not perfect but high quality. Nice deep black. This is my mean rooster Blaze and a picture of one of his sons. Unfortunately Blaze has parasitic white that developed later. Now the work to breed it out.

you are alright about the Blue and the Black , rooster could BC or BLC . same result .

but if we Talk BC and BLC , the is a copper involved in here ,so it more complex. I will add this .
Copper is Sex linked gene .so good BC hen with a good copper will pass that quality only to her sons ,what about the daughter {pullets? where they copper come from } for that we need a sire to be BC , because it is hard to get a great uniform copper on a BLC roosters/ pullets . the BL gene dilute the Black and a copper too .
BC rooster with a correct copper if mated to a BLC hens with a diluted copper hackle will produce 100 % correct copper in all his progeny .pullets/cockerels .
BLC rooster with a good copper quality mated to a BC hen with a yellowish { diluted copper } hackle will not produce 100% correct progeny . only the pullets will have a correct copper not all the cockerels .
that is way the BC rooster is better .

if we working with a proven well bred lines where the copper quality is well establish { breed true } than mating a BLC over BC or BC over BLC will give a same result . ONLY PROVEN /SAME BRED LINES .

Black Jack and Ace. Black Jack doesn't show his color as nicely as Ace but in the right angle it's there. Black Jack towers Ace in size and got to love his broad chest. First picture Black Jack on right and ace left.

I like when 2 brother are not the same but the complete each other . that give 2 cockerels to work with in different breeding program .

I like them both .you have done well . starting from BLC parent stock . you should be proud .

Just wanted to share a few grow out pullets. Haven't seen any really stand out cockerels yet, but big Jackson is getting old for a breeder and I need a son to carry on for him. I had blue boy, but he got into a scuffle that ended up doing him in with Albedo, the recessive white cock. There's lots out there, but it's not narrowed down yet.

lovely pullet .great body type and hackle marking .
some time cockerels are slow to show up and mature . hope you get one to replace big Jackson

Hey I'm Back,
New computer, I hate computers, my old one crashed, lost all my pics. My camera does not work anymore. I did hatch BCM this year. 3 different hatches. 18, 8, 13 all looking great. One week, 3 weeks and 6 weeks. Marchick hope we can get together on a blue hen.

I think dont be afraid to share what you know or are working on even mistakes help us all through learning.

love to see that even if it’s not preferable by some that blaze came from such a pairing.

Blaze is a great example of breeding new BC line from BLC parent stock . need some work for sure . even BC need some work . so I do not see where is a problems .

genetic does not listen to any body . genetic only response to the ones they know it own secret and know how to work with it . genetic is complex . Nature around us is genetic expression .

That is Blaze before the white showed up. I think he was around 6 months old in this picture.
