International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hey I'm Back,
New computer, I hate computers, my old one crashed, lost all my pics. My camera does not work anymore. I did hatch BCM this year. 3 different hatches. 18, 8, 13 all looking great. One week, 3 weeks and 6 weeks. Marchick hope we can get together on a blue hen.
Glad your back! Right now I am working on parasitic white. It popped up in all 3 roosters. I hatched about 65 chicks this year. Hope to hatch replacements free of parasitic white. I got a really late start. My oldest chicks are only about 13 weeks. My youngest are 1 day old. Not sure if anybody would want to bring that white into the flock. Also my husband doesn't want me to ship so. Still working on that one.

IT is interesting how the breeder I got my birds from has been breeding for 30 years! The breeder he got them from has been breeding for thirty years!! All these birds have faults, even some disqualifications. We continue to breed because we love BCM's I do not believe we can ever bred a PERFECT bird!! I do believe we can and have breed some EXCELLENT birds. I am not sure, but I read somewhere back when it was A STANDARD OF EXCELLENTS! OLD MAN TOM ps( I would love to have a blue hen white feathers or not. )

I guess it's just in me not to cheat anyone and I don't want anyone to get less than they thought they where getting. Also in me to strive for perfection even if it's not attainable. I will have extra for sure at some point. Probably next spring when they are older. I only have 6 or 7 hens now. I culled down just to Coppers. You are in Washington state correct? Do you ever make trips to this area? I am over by Yakima. If you could make a trip next spring I could get you a hen/pullet. Depending on when you come and how old they are.

My wife and I love a road trip. That is a plan. We are in North Eastern WA Monse, WA I have lived in Okanogan County my whole life. Mostly desert and mountians 100 degrees + in the summer - 20 degrees in the winter. Have more trouble in the summer heat with my birds. Do not stress about any of this. I just want some blue hens sometime.TOM

I am planning a trip in may to go see family. Depending on if the virus has died down and flying isn't a problem. Other than that we should be able to plan a visit. I should have some nice BLC hens. It will be good to meet you. That's the sad part of everything online. You make friends that you will probably never meet. It will be nice to actually meet someone in person. I would love to meet Chooksman too but can't see myself ever traveling to Australia.

Just wanted to share a few grow out pullets. Haven't seen any really stand out cockerels yet, but big Jackson is getting old for a breeder and I need a son to carry on for him. I had blue boy, but he got into a scuffle that ended up doing him in with Albedo, the recessive white cock. There's lots out there, but it's not narrowed down yet.

Good job! Beautiful!

Ok, so I never do this so correct me Chooksman if I am wrong. I don't like to reply. Since chooksman is the expert but I am going to take a stab at it. It will also work Blue cock over Black hens. To get the best Blue. Becauce blue doesn't breed true Blue X Blue you will get Blue, black and splash. This pairing will also produce various shades of blue. Not consistent. Not good! Now the big debate some say not to keep BC from BC X BLC that the black won't be deep black. It will ruin your BC forever. Not true I have done it. My Blaze is proof. He came from Blue X Blue. He is not perfect but high quality. Nice deep black. This is my mean rooster Blaze and a picture of one of his sons. Unfortunately Blaze has parasitic white that developed later. Now the work to breed it out.
