International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Here is a blue copper cockerel I've been watching. He looks good body wise and his eye color is good but, instead of copper saddle feathers coming in, his are coming in dark blue. I guess that would knock him out as a keeper since he isn't coloring up well? His tail is trying to come in. The Game grow outs tend to pick the tails of some of the Marans cockerels.

This guy is I believe a month younger than the first guy I put in today. I really like blues and my daughter wants more splashes, so I have to replace blue boy. This guy still needs to fill in. He's another slow feathered, as many of my cockerels are, less than half the pullets are slow feathered, however. It seems harder to find a blue that doesn't have yellow tint to his silver than a black silver!
This guy is as wild as a ragged colt, and twice as fast, so once I caught him for banding, to the top of the storage boxes he flew. He refused to pose, but at least he dusted up there.

Dark Halo is her sire. Another offspring of DH and Malika. The copper I am seeing coming in is deep like Malika and Queen's. I caught her up and penned her today as well. :)

DH and Malika should be penned for life .they are very very compatible .producing stunning progeny .
love this pairing .proven to produce .

The only problem is that DH has become very aggressive and I really don't want to perpetuate that trait if possible. Plus he has the halo I would like to weed out. I was hoping to get a good enough replacement to cull him this year. :(

Did Barbara Doddington respond to your inquiry? She has nice BCMs.

She did- she said her flock is very small and won't have anything for sale from them.
I also tried two places in BC (across the country). Sounds like shipping is a real PITA and they'd rather just sell local. So its really facebook or craigslist or kijiji. Its so funny that it can be so hard to find a type of chicken. :idunno
