International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you! You really do need to turn that into a pen. This time around has been the most difficult time deciding. I have basically 7 roosters counting Jasper that are in the running. I can only keep 3 or 4 at the most. I have 4 favorites Black Jack, Ace, white band and the one that had spots. Boy do they need names! Lol

only Black jack ,Ace and white bend { I call him White dragon } are to keep .the rest need to go .
very simple . job well done .great year of breeding .you move one step forward in forming your line .

You know what your problem is right? You bred to many nice cockerels!! Unfortunately you will have to part with some really nice birds but fortunately you have some really nice birds to choose from. IMO this type of problem is the hallmark of a good breeder.

As for making your selections, I choose to think of it as the cockerels are culling themselves rather than you doing the culling. What I mean by this is the cockerels (or pullets for that matter) that most closely represent the SOP get promoted to the breeding pen. Your culls could help someone else improve their lines.

I was hoping you would say that but wasn't sure if he would fill out. They change so much. I will keep him at least long enough to butcher.

good idea .
i don t like his head and his tail .but let see maybe in few month he will look different .maybe he will be free from parasitic white .let see . they really change a lot .but his tail will always stay long .

Not the one without any leg bands? I will post a picture of him. Thats the one I almost culled because of spots. What about Jasper? Cull Jasper?
