Tonight I am caging the 2 cockerels to butcher in the morning.
-The high tailed one
-and the one with an M in his comb.

I will also cull the hens that we chose not to keep.

This will leave:
3 F1 cockerels
2 line #2 hens
2 line #3 hens
Yes that will be great. Chooks man

I am debating on if I should cull both roosters. The one in the back pen is not very nice. He challenges me too much. Although I never give him the chance to attack he would for sure. He came at me once and I threw the bucket of water on him. If I turn my back for a second he runs to attack. I never turn my back longer than that! The sire to this year's hatch is friendly enough. I just would prefer having BC rooster to breed from. I really want a solid BC pen. Hoping it would help with the white.

Thats a hard decision.
I always cull for temperament but one of these days I may end up having to breed from one to keep the good genetics going.
I wonder how much a bad temperament carries over to their progeny?
I think it would be the same as any other quality. Some may end up aggressive but some would not. It may be worth trying. You can always cull any bad ones from him and keep the calm ones.

Just a thought.
@Chooks man would have insight on this.

Thank you, It's always a difficult decision for me to cull. I would probably end up kicking myself. I definitely need Chooksman's insight on what to do. I like the Blcm so I don't want to discontinue them but I need to work on cleaning up the white. I have several Blc hens and only 3 BC hens to work with. I need to know if the 2 roosters are needed to move forward. If not they are gone. I like the oldest Blc cockerel he is looking pretty nice at least the last time I had time to go out and observe. I thought he might end up better than his sire. I am not really wanting a blc rooster but I would if it would move me forward. Tough decisions. Help Chooksman! I don't know what to do! 😁

If he is busty to you get ready of him . We don t want troubles. Plus you have 4 BC cockerels from him . They look very nice to me for they age chunky and long .it s always better to keep a BC rooster to put over a BLC hens . BC rooster over BLC hens will keep the blue plunge uniform with. Minimum variation. But BLC rooster over a BLC hens will create different shade of blue . For me now that I bred high quality BC roosters , I will never work with BLC only keeping them for they look that all not for breeding. Chooks man

Some creature are naturally nasty , animals or human and some are gentle that all. We raised 48 cockerels last year only one of them is nasty his 2 true brothers are super gentle and calm. Chooks man
