International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Now since y'all are my only chicken friends I have to share an amazing story, you may not believe me but it is true. A little over a month ago I lost a Partridge Rock hen, Today I heard a noise when I was gathering eggs. I thought it was in the second coop, looked around nothing. I went behind the coops where I keep all the fencing, garden stuff etc. I heard the noise coming from under a planter pot. I was nervous about lifting it so I pushed it over with my foot. There was my missing hen! Please tell me how she has survived so long!
no idea my dear friend ,guess now you got her back,

This last girl I didn't get good pictures of and it was cold out she was huddling. Double orange tag I think. Mud makes it difficult to tell orange, faded red and pink leg bands apart. She has the best comb. She has the least copper. That's the only 3 BC that I have.
this one is wide and chuncky too ,all your 3 BCM hens are long and chuncky with medium to short legs and gorgeous small tail .
very nice if she has a correct comb ,we need her to breed the comb .,don t to worry about the amount of copper we will breed more into her progeny myour cockerel are well coloured they will put hackles back into they progenirs
I think we will have fun to breed them to the selectted 2 rooster we kept .
Bravo my friend we have done great job breeding those stunning BCM flock, lot to work with now ,we can focus in breeding out the bad and fixing the good to breed true .

The hen responsible for those eggs is going no where . Agree with you we have to breed her. Find out who is she take photos of her and we will design breeding program specific for her. She will be the foundation of dark eggs layer future flock. Well happy for you . Bravo

I think I have it narrowed down to two hens and I will need to catch them laying. I wish I had a camera to put out there.

I closed one girl up in the hen house by herself. She was on a nest getting ready to lay. I checked under her and all over the hen house. Just to make sure no eggs where in there. She layed the egg on the bottom right side of first picture. The other two are the ones I took pictures of and showed you yesterday.

In the second picture the eggs are in same position. I flipped the egg on the left lower side over. One from yesterday. It didn't have as large of spots on the other side. I am sure it's the same girl. I am convinced she is daughter of M comb hen. Sibling to the cockerel with the M comb. I believe she will be 1 year in first part of May. She was from my first hatch. My 2 hatches last year didn't get wing or leg bands. She had neither until now. I put pink, white and orange on both legs. She has a bad comb for sure. Do you agree same hen layed all three eggs?

the 2 eggs on the left are from the same hen ,they look identical the egg on the right by it self look to me like has a pointy end . some time egg shape does change a little . it is possibale they are all from a same hen .

I am really glad you like her Chooks man. Maybe I am just over critical. I will keep watching to see if anyone else is laying. I believe there is one more blcm pullet out there from last years hatch. I only have one or 2 Marans laying now. Depending on if that egg is from the same girl or not. As the daylight hours increase there will be more of them laying soon.

Hi friends, I have been debating whether to say this or not. Not many people know this as I haven't told many people. I am going to breed Marans as long as I am able. I really don't want to disappoint everyone especially Chooks man. You have helped me so much. I feel these are as much your Marans as they are mine. I appreciate you so much and all that you do to help everyone. I thank everyone on here for making this group special. I know we have never met but consider you all my friends. My doctor told me that I will be in a wheelchair in a year or two. I believe in Jesus and the power of prayer and I believe He still heals. I will continue breeding Marans until I can't anymore. Thanks everyone! Tomorrow will be the day we thin out the cockerels. Then get breeding pens setup.
