International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi friends, I have been debating whether to say this or not. Not many people know this as I haven't told many people. I am going to breed Marans as long as I am able. I really don't want to disappoint everyone especially Chooks man. You have helped me so much. I feel these are as much your Marans as they are mine. I appreciate you so much and all that you do to help everyone. I thank everyone on here for making this group special. I know we have never met but consider you all my friends. My doctor told me that I will be in a wheelchair in a year or two. I believe in Jesus and the power of prayer and I believe He still heals. I will continue breeding Marans until I can't anymore. Thanks everyone! Tomorrow will be the day we thin out the cockerels. Then get breeding pens setup.
sorry to hear your health problem my dear friend ,I m a believer my self on the power of self healing .I had a spine problem 2005 and I was told I m not going to walk again and I ll be taking pain teller medication for the rest of my life , never believe them ,I start a self healing program ,meditation ,yoga ngreat diet etc ,by 2008 I was back on my feet without any pain ,my spine completly healled up .

So 4 cockerels and 1 rooster are gone. The white and the blue leg band I kept. Now deciding what to do and setting up pens.
mate the Blue tag rooster to the 3 BC plus the Blc ( hen with dark egg) hens first hatch few chicks than swap the rooster keeping a same hens in the breeding pen .
one hatch from a Blue tag rooster . we keep the best pullets .
one hatch from a White tag rooster we keep the best 1 or 2 cockerels and few pullets .
keep it simple quality not quantity .all the best

Thank you Chooks man. My Marans make me happy so I will keep going. What are my first steps in setting up pens? I want to start by hatching out a few pullets. Most of these are getting up there in age.

Thank you Chooks man, Tomorrow I will move them over.
good luck ,hatch more from a Blue tag rooster , because we are keeping most of his daughters ( pullets}
hatch less from a white tag rooster because we are looking to keep 1 or 2 cockerels from him and maybe few nice pullets .
all the best .
keep it simple .

Thank you Chooks man! I went out early and moved around a lot of birds. Swapping pens and consolidating. I moved the ducks, pheasants and Marans. I have blue band cockerel in with the 3 BC hens and the one Blcm. One large section that the cockerels where in is now empty. I will use that section for the ones I hatch.

Just a quick question: when they finally open again, can I show French/USA standard (feathered legged) Marans in the UK? I’ve never showed birds but it’s something I’m looking into, so it would be a shame if I can’t take my marans.

Updates on Loki and my pullets coming this weekend if I remember, some good news and some annoying news!
