Thank you for helping me my friend.![]()
@Punkybrewster in this photo he does not look as V shape but I trust you .photos some time does not do justice . I will this his complete body colour and quality of his copper are sublime .his daughters will have a complete hackle marking most of them for sure . if he is matted to great and correct body type hens they will correct that in they progeny .
we need to set our priuority right .
we breed for the correct body type ,a completeand correct copper quality plus the eggs colour first . when those 3 traits are fix we can start fixing the others . don t focus too much on the parasitic white .

You're right. He looked good to me until I took these pictures. He is lacking good shoulder color. Most of his hens have poor copper so they will probably have dark chicks. We will see. This pen lays the darkest eggs but poor hatch rates/fertility. I hope this changes as the season goes on.@Punkybrewster this rooster good comb has shoulder are not well colored compair to the nusty junior .his back look short .will produce a lot black pullets I think but for now I willl wait for a better photos .![]()
I do like the hen standing next to him ,she is sublime ,great chunky ,long and correct body type I will mark her eggs for sure if I was you , she can be the foundation hen for back crossing to establish that great marans body type she has ,what a type .

does happen when we cross a lines some time but we can always bring it back by back crossing .Thank you for helping me my friend.
He is cockerel line rooster so all 6 of his hens have complete copper also. I'm excited to see how the cockerels from them turn out. Temperament will be an important consideration when selecting.
Egg color lightened a bit when I crossed lines but there are a few laying nice and dark. I will wait until late summer as usual to select hens to stay that lay dark. I don't have a lot of room to house them all.
I will ignore their white for now then.
That is what I learned here. Better or equal quality are the keepers. Moving forward. Not backward.does happen when we cross a lines some time but we can always bring it back by back crossing .
we don t ned a 100 of hen to breed dark eggs layer , if we cankeep 2 or 3 dark eggs layer for back crossing to the best new cockerels we will get from this young group you are hatching now that will be great .

PS - a a good practice when breding chooks is - never keep a pullet if she is not better than her mother .or of equal quality .if the hen/hens get too old than we have to replace her .

If you have hatched enough chicks from nasty junior than swap pens . Put NJ with dark eggs layer he will add body colour to his pullets progeny .You're right. I thought of this and was going to ask. The other pens are not laying well yet. But I think I will do it!If you have hatched enough chicks from nasty junior than swap pens . Put NJ with dark eggs layer he will add body colour to his pullets progeny .
