I thought of this and was going to ask. The other pens are not laying well yet. But I think I will do it!

If you manage to get a half Dz chicks from him over a dark layer that will be very helpful in the future.

I live in my new unfinished house (no electricity yet). my animals are about 1 km away at a friends place. I expect to finish my 16 coops by the end of next week.

shape and size of the egg is ok. another egg she laid is a bit darker but #4/5. they were imported from hungary so they might be bred to lay a lot of eggs.

Thank you. I was hoping you would say that. So far, it seems all the chicks are fast feathering coming from this pen.

Yes, Junior is the devil. He wants to kill me.
The reason he is around is because he's my only rooster that has no white in his tail feathers. Now at 1 year old, he does have a small amount of white underfluff.
Junior looks very different from the other 2 roosters. I plan to grow out his cockerels and get rid of him. He is my only hope to minimize the parasitic white.
He is tall and narrow V shaped.

if you were near I would take him. his copper is precious and no white. that is my dream so far. I feel sick and tired of haloes and parasitic white.

From what I remember reading in this thread, white feathers are easier to breed out than white underfluff?

I'm going to have to study on this.

I moved 3 of the darkest egg layers into the pen with him last night.
He (Junior) is from a very dark egg.

I am going to have a big problem with having enough room to house keeper chicks. I told myself I would only keep a couple from each pen!

My plan is not going to work. I KNOW there will be more than that. Haha

This is the 3rd rooster.
Mr. White tail.
I love his type. He is big and chunky.
Looking at these pictures, he seems to have a slight halo and higher tail than I would like.
Love his leg color and light feathering. They will help the hens that have too many.

He has the most frostbite on his comb and now an open wound on both sides that looks infected. The hens are pecking at it. I put some petroleum with blue food coloring on it last night but it did not help. Their still pecking it. Antibiotics are ordered. Hope it gets here this week. I've never used antibiotics but I think in this case, I will.

Hello to all, I just joined BYC specifically so I could join this thread which I have been reading from the beginning and have only made it up to page 500 so far! I have learned a lot. I have a small flock of Black copper Marans and even have few eggs set aside to go in the incubator tomorrow. Good thing because my only breeding rooster just died today!

I do have another rooster with stunning copper, but he has some white under fluff and tail feathers. His chest is very overcolored and there is some mossiness or even brown mixed with black in his wing bow. My question is can a very overcolored rooster have brown mossiness in the wing bow or does that always indicate a recessive wheaten gene?

I thought I would attach photos of Russel Crow (aka Mr. Crow) It might make it easier to see what I’m talking about.
This rooster is a rescue. He is 2 1/2 years old and was used by a lady to make colourful eggs, so he has dark egg genes. I brought him home and discovered he had scaly leg mites so he has been in isolation. He’s doing much better and his temperament is amazing! I love everything about this rooster except his white underfluff and I’m concerned that he carries the wheaten gene.

I like his size ,big boy .nice back too ,yes I can see the halo and the white on the tail .
when you finish breeding from all 3 roosters you need to get ready of them ,focus on the young cockerels .you will have plenty to select from
we are not keeping these roosters because they have major faults they are not good for back crossing ,,it is better for us to keep the older dark eggs layer hens to for back crossing .

very hard to see ,the photo is on it side .look like a big boy. I see he has a lot copper on his chest .you ned to test mate him to know if he is a wheaten carrier .
he could simply has imbalanced Autossomal red .too much copper .
