International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

So, yesterday this woman an hour away from me - who had to get rid of her entire flock because of ongoing predator attacks while she was away taking care of a sick relative - she had some interesting breeds in there. I snagged this Birchen Marans that was hatched this spring... she got the eggs from someone in Texas apparently. I'll get better pics later but how does she look for a Tennessee Birchen Marans? @Bantambird @Chooks man ? Her legs are very lightly feathered.

The bird on the other side is a Partridge Penedesenca. :)

Oh wow, I'm jealous. She's pretty.
I see some leakage in her chest but a correct colored Roo would fix that. Or is it under colored Roo? Still learning. Other than that her tail looks correct from what I can tell and she looks robust and healthy.
Texas or Tennessee? Good find 👍

I'd use her. She would make good cockerels. It is ok to have a little chest lacing for males anyways, up to 1/3 down the chest for males.

I'm guessing your in Tennessee. And she got the eggs from Texas?
Definitely post more pics. I'm obsessed with the Black/Silvers (ask Bantambird, she'll tell ya)
She's lucky she lives so far away or I'd be visiting her farm.... everyday.

You gotta get up pretty early in the morning, to catch me peaking in your windows.. 🤪

I could see being obsessed with silvers. I kinda like the lacy chest leakage but I get it's a flaw The biggest thing I noticed with her is that she didn't have any yellow. The story on her origin is that her next door neighbor tinkers with hatching rare breed dark eggs. She got the pullet from him. The Birchen eggs came from Ebay. I heard her say Texas but she wasn't positive. He also hatched Birchen eggs from Minnesota I believe. I'll find out more if I can. I asked her to talk to him and find out.

My cockerel has reached 6 months and I'm happy to say he now holds his wing more tight. I'm thinking it was the new feathers coming in causing discomfort. View attachment 3660607
thank you for posting photo of him here ,I commented on him on the facebook page but I will comment again for this group to see what I m talking about .
love his long rectangular body shape .long ,low to the ground type with a deep chest . great head with a nice comb .long flat back ,good tail at the right angle well colored shanks with minimum feathering ( he could do with more feathering ) well colored shoulder , nice blue plumage not too dark niether light well lacet , good stance .good eyes and wattles .bad thing about him is his copper not uniform dark rich copper but it yellowish ,halo hacle and yellow darkand lancet .
he will be great to breed him to a BC hen with a dark copper ( mahogany type ) ,the best is to breed him to a splash copper or blue copper ( just keep the splash progeny ,
I will breed him just for his stunning body type .
chooks man
