International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

This girl has done a lot of singing this week. Loud and proud!!!
Calling her Roxanne. She is my #1 suspicion for the huge egg.

Roxanne is gorgeous, are any of your MMM's showing any copper. One of our BR pullets squatted for me yesterday I'll have some MMM's in the spring. I have 3 total, 1 layer with Kong and the 2 BR pullets are going in with King.

No copper at all.

Their leg feathers vary greatly.
I have 6 pullets.
2 have no leg feathers.
2 have a row down the outer leg and toe.
2 have tons of leg feathers. So many I picked them up to "find" their toes!

I'm really liking the egg color so far. Looking forward to seeing the others.
They got bell bottoms... 😂
Post more pics when you can. I'm guessing they get their size from the Barred Rock breed cuz my Morty and Lizzie (BR) are big girls. Or it's the treats the wife brings out..

The bits of white they had as chicks is about gone on all. I think they will be completely black.
I've heard that some will show a hint of copper but Morty didn't, she was jet black. But her eggs were so pretty. Always speckled.
I never did find an egg pic. Must be on my old phone I need to locate and pull the sim card.

The mottled pullet is looking crazy. Her base color is black silver.

Very pretty!
Forgive me if you said before, but how many have you had with this coloring? Any cockerels?
Not any really noticeable cockerels with this coloring. She is the most extreme, but 2 years ago, I had a hen who was mottled, but not as pronounced as this girl, and it showed up more as she got older on her 2 year molt. My husband likes me to reduce in winter because I don't have a lot of indoor coop space. He's right, of course, unless I could afford to build more coops, I'm forced to reduce to about 40 birds in winter. She was sold to a lady looking for older hens. This is likely a granddaughter of that hen.
