The mottled pullet seems to be turning more white. She is changing rapidly. Maybe she's an unusual recessive white?

She did get pooped on because she likes to sleep on the floor like a dummy...
very interesting .never seen that is chooks before I have seen it in pigeon when I was breeding at a young age .
love to see her when she is fully mature , maybe it is a mutation , your line has been in isolation for quite a white now .
she is stunning by the way

first time my marans and most of the layers have been let out in the snow, they weren’t too fussed, came back in once I put the food out. Still moulting so a bit chilly in the cold weather. Loving Channel’s new feathers, lovely and blue, still have some old patches though.View attachment 3697851View attachment 3697852View attachment 3697853View attachment 3697854View attachment 3697855View attachment 3697856

Thank you, the visual pics are very helpful.
The last pic looks like a cockerel (slow feathering)..so this is the sex linking you explained, correct?

Were you able to get your brooders done for your next hatch?
I'd like to see pics when you have the time to share them.
loo at this photo the 2 buff chicks in the middle a cockerel is looking at the camera slow feathering type his little sister is facing away from the camera she is early feathering type I posted her photo in a previous post . they come out of sex linked pairing . easy to sex at hatch

It’s been 5 days since Axl’s comb got frostbite. Nothing has completely shriveled up but the black parts look to be getting darker. I can’t tell if it’s just the outer most layer or if it goes deeper. I have not tried to clean it because I don’t see any signs of infection so I don’t want to open it up to infection. I don’t know if that the correct thing to do but I just feel like it’s a don’t pick a scab sort of thing.

the color looks to be returning to the parts that were turning white so I think it is healing like it should. I guess I’ll just continue to monitor it and try to be hands off as long as nothing looks or smells infected.

Should BlCMs have lacing? For some reason I thought they shouldn’t, but maybe I’m mistaking it for another breed (Brahma maybe). I know it isn’t Wyandotte type lacing, just the type you see in andalusians, but I remember hearing one standard that says no lacing.

Edit: I think I’m talking about Leghorns, since Blue Marans aren’t standard anyway.

I've only 1 very limited experience with a Buff Orp rooster. 2 rear points were bit during an unusually cold spell.

They will slowly get completely black the then fall away. It took some time for the whole process. It was never smelled bad or looked infected. Advice from others was to leave it be. Touching or rubbing ointment does more damage than good. If it starts to look infected antibiotic ointment is good but try to limit rubbing as much as possible.

As long as he's acting normally I'd just watch it. Others may have more advice.

He has a very handsome face. Reminds me of my Elwood.

Thanks for your reply. I’ll just continue to watch it and not touch it. I do have some chicken antibiotic ointment on hand if needed.
