International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Incoming hatch day notice for tomorrow.
Y/O is sitting on 10 Kong x Solo eggs and very excited for this project.
Upper left corner is this hatch.. altho I wish it explained a bit more the future Gold x Gold F1 females.

Do you mean breeding a pure BCM to the F1 hens?
If so it’s all gold (copper) from there, but shade will vary (simple genetics won’t help predict this much).

@wrathsfarm bare in mind (I feel you probably realise already) that while this cross is sex-linked they will not be able to be sexed by colour until the ground colour grows in at three weeks or so because all the chicks will be black with white bibs regardless of silver or gold.
No this is new info. I was going off the graph saying males would be light/white at hatch, I was assuming much like Poppy was yellow.

Unfortunately this applies only to Columbian patterns (and maybe wheaten I don’t know), as they show ground colour throughout their bodies. Because you’re working within the birchen pattern, all chicks are the same at hatch as they do not express ground colour yet. I assume Solo looked no different at hatch than your others, this is the same case. Unless there are subtle differences I don’t realise.

Yes, what we discussed. Backcrossing the F1 females back to BCM to get back the copper I have.
I thought as much, yes these will breed just as normal BCMs, I’m really looking forward to seeing the F1s. I think it will really signify the success of this thread, seeing the fusion of two of its best members’ lines.

Yes she was the same little penguin. If there was a difference I didn't notice.

Awww...well thanks.
Definitely don't consider myself best at anything. Just trying to learn from all the great people here, like yourself and better my birds.

Wouldn't have what I have without this thread and all involved.
