International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I might either hatch some more of channel’s eggs (I don’t think I want any of Natasha’s progeny due to the yellow legs and early deaths I’ve had with them in the past) to have a last hatch from Loki and ensure Chanel’s genes are passed into more hens.

Alternatively I buy some cuckoo eggs, I’ve seen some promising ones on eBay, not as good on egg colour but big looking birds with very light necks, making me think they’re silvers. I’ve messaged to check anyway.

Or both, both is good.

Both would be wonderful if you have the room under your Silkie for that many.

Getting hatching eggs of course is a gamble, but getting them when you can, compared to waiting in my opinion would be the better as they may not be available next time. Your eggs are always on site....

Good luck whichever way you go.

I would only order six and would be happy with a cockerel and a pullet. I just think another bloodline would be good for the GCM project as I’d keep it a closed bloodline after they are breeding true.

My
BCMs have the continental heritage, long bodies and dark eggs, and the bold colours.

My ordered
DCMs from the breeder I know have shiny, dark eggs, fantastic cuckoo feathers (because there is a difference in appearance between cuckoo and barred) and good tails.

The
BCMs from the same breeder have the darkest eggs I’ve seen in the UK.

The likely
SCMs look like they are big and heavy, and have good type, tails are high but small and tidy. Also have small combs, which my flock could benefit from.

between all these I have would have all the jigsaw pieces for perfect English
GCMs and a clan breeding strategy would be good to blend them, but like I always say, I’ll need to make some more pens.

How obvious is it I just learnt I could change font colour?

That's great, you have a good plan going. Yayyy...more pens. I'm not the Lone Ranger there !!

Dare I say annoyingly obvious..🤣

I still haven't figured out the keypad tho, so your miles ahead with colors.
