International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

The marans are already way bigger than the silkies (which I know is obvious but they are two days younger).
Pictures mostly of the Cuckoo cockerel, who already is named the Duke of Welington, and one BCM with little white ‘eyebrows’.

I don’t know too much about chick type so if anyone was anything to say feel free.

Great pictures... I keep gravitating back to the first pic, that little one has a very serious look. ♥️

I’ve been reading a few posts (on Facebook so I’d not take it for certain) that true English Golden cuckoo marans are extinct. As in no one breeds this variety and it cannot be achieved without a breeding project similar to my own since the original stock have all gone.

I’m only posting this to say how thrilled I will be when I finally get the F3s from my GCM project and can say that I’ve revived this variety in Britain.

But that’s a long while away, the parent stock are still little chicks…

I’ve been doing more searching and honestly can’t find any breeder of them at all (in Britain). It’s odd because the marans club doesn’t really offer much insight here, it tells you the GCM standard and says nothing about how rare they are.

Many groups just refer to DCMs as English Cuckoo marans, as if there aren’t supposed to be three different cuckoo marans varieties in England.

It’s surprising saying the golden variety is the best to sex at hatch.

facebook peoples say all sort of stuff ,they are expert ,
in reality the English golden cuckoo marans was never as famous as the silver one ,
the golden cuckoo is easier to breed but peoples always prefer the silver cuckoo because they think they are dark eggs layer ( true in some point )
I m in F2 both rooster and hen have copper but not enough ,this year I ll breed them to BCM with a complete hackle marking and rich copper to produce F3 .
Bravo if you can breed them in UK . we are working with a lot British stock here in Oz .our marans are better now since we imported the breed from UK in 2014/6 .
make sure to balance the plumge pattern and dark eggs ,
