let them some growing and when the time come I ll help you making the cross .
I ll Mp you the detail of the crossing so you can print it out and safe it .

you know with a pair like yours where the rooster is a silver cuckoo and a pure one and a BCM hen you will recreate =
1) Birchen marans
2) Silver cuckoo marans
3) golden cuckoo marans
4) Black copper marans..

so a lot of work and a few extra pens are needed to do the 5 years minimum .

nice looking hen .look exactly like one of mine ( my friend ) about the heat and the hatch my luck has changed in the last few day .24 hours of rain and is going to stay for a week ( that what the weather man is saying .hope he is alright ) temperature dropped about 13 DC from yesterday 38.4 DC to 25 DC today . plus my hens hatched me 3 more chicks 9 one of died strait away ) I have 9 healthy chicks now .the drought has officially been broken .

5 incubator are full .I m filling up 1 incubator48 or 56 eggs every 3 days .fresh eggs . so I m well happy about that too .

they are very nice .I have a yellow one 2 of them but I don t have a silver hackle one .she is gorgeous .

I m going to get into them lot eggs in the bator 3 hens are laying .

no all of them will bred true . we are working within a marans genome so the different phenotype are there .with a little manipulation they ll show up .

a lot backward and forward crossing .but it is fun .why just have chooks if you can make yours as long as you work within a marans ,you are going to get marans for sure 100% .

I know this is a BCM thread, but since we are talking about genetics I have a question for @Chooks man . I hope it is okay to ask it here.

A friend gave me a Crele American Gamecock, and two of his single barred sons (only 1/2 crele). The cock is supposedly pure crele so he should be double barred. I want to create a pure crele line using the cock. I have wheaten game hens and some that come partridge looking (wild type) that I could mate him to. I've read using a wild type hen would be best since crele is wild type color with barring. What would be the best way to go about breeding the creles so they breed true? I am eager to work with them to create an autosexing line.

My thoughts:

Mate the cock to a wild type hen producing my F1. Then mate single barred F1 x F1 to create double barred cockerels and single barred pullets (F2). From then on any further offspring should breed true, correct? The single barred pullets and double barred cockerels would be autosexing at hatch like any other barred breed, would they not?

Or I could mate the cock to a wild type hen, and then back cross the single barred F1 pullets back to the cock.

What approach would be best for this?

Welcome back! It is easier for us to check your chickens out if you take pics of them from different angles (front, back, side view, top, and close up for eye color and comb). When you take pics make sure they are standing in a natural position. I know just how difficult it is to take good pictures of chickens when they are running around the coop. And if they are anything like mine, they never stand still! lol

What I can tell about your cockerel is that his comb doesn't look half bad right now. I have definitely seen worse combs (like on my chickens.. lol). The blade doesn't touch the back of his head and is free from side springs and thumb print. His eye color looks good, leg color looks appropriate. His shanks are feathered down to the end of the outer toes as they should be. He is still young and is still developing his copper coloring. So far his copper is looking good. Can't tell much about his type from the angles of the pictures.
