International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@RedBanks Your Marans are looking beautiful as always!

We have about 2 inches of snow on the ground, so no pics of my bunch right now. They view snow as a foreign and unfriendly force that they do not understand so they avoid it if they can. They've not ventured out of the coops much the past couple days.
It's supposed to be in the single digits tonight. Can't wait for spring!

On a positive note, I have 3 newly hatch Cream Legbars from my second set of eggs, and one more trying to hatch I will probably have to assist. Two girls and one boy so far this time.

Exciting with the CLs. Are they Jill Rees lines? Curtis Hale? GaryDean26 was on our thread earlier. He was very involved in BCM and now only has CLs. He is a wealth of knowledge and a wonderful mentor. I hope he starts lurking here!

We have cold coming but thank goodness never any snow!

I have made arrangements with Amanda to pick up the roosters on Sunday! We really have a good start Kayla! Thanks to Amanda!

I feel the same way about your flock! The are very nice. I have always liked Otis. Antonio is an amazing rooster. He has his flock and they never stray from him. There are three roosters in the yard but Antonio and his hens stay in the back yard and the other roosters and hens are in the front yard. The other two roosters share the hens and the flock is not as cohesive. This flock has two coops but they don't end up in the same coop every night. Antonio and his hens have a coop and they would not roost anywhere else. Antonio has been challenged by Claude and the Black Ameraucana rooster but the spats never last long. Antonio is a hunk and very sure of himself. He uses just enough force to end the challenge. He is very good at his job.

I still need to take good pictures of all the breeding stock. Then I will ask for the threads help.

What did you think of Claude? I think I am going to rehome him since I have Antonio and the two flock sires.
I do like Antonio better, as Claude is lighter in his hackle. He has a high tail like my boys, that has been pretty common with this line. He is a lovely rooster, but Antonio seems to be the best of the two. Between Antonio and the two FRF sires you should be set. I can't wait to see pics of them once you pick them up!

Quote: Thank you Kfelton0002. Claude is small too. Well.... he seems small next to Antonio. Amanda thinks Antonio is nicer than her roosters but I can't wait to see them. She hasn't really seen Antonio only pictures.

There is a woman here that contacted me for BCMs. She bought all of my Bielefelders some time back. I plan on giving her eggs and have offered her Claude. That will be one more person with our lines in a closed situation. Back up!

Yes they are all Jill Rees, both groups. The parent stock is direct from GFF. So far I am up to an even 3 males and 3 females. The chick I just assisted to hatch is weak and probably won't survive. She was a pullet also. She is still in the hatcher to keep warm but it isn't looking good. Poor thing.

I am beyond thrilled you are getting Amanda's roosters! Looking forward to working with you with this line! We are off to a great start indeed!

It's good to network and have a good relationship with other breeders. My husband and I are the same way. A young man and friend of ours that my husband has taken under his wing is interested in learning about breeding American Games. He wanted to buy chickens, and my husband has since given him quite a few to get him started. I got my start in Marans because a goodhearted breeder wanted me to start with quality chickens instead of junk. It is always kind to pay it forward and help others learn and get started with chickens. I will do the same with Marans eggs once the girls start laying consistently.
