International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I had 17 GFF Jill Rees. They were very nice.... down to 4.

Poor baby chick! I hope she makes it.

You are hatching chicks and I am making marmalade.
Aww they were such cuties! My first group are growing out to look much like the chicks in your pictures. Maybe if I have any luck with CL's I can send you some eggs later in the year if you want more.

I hope she makes it also, but I've hatched a lot of chicks and I'm not looking for her to pull through. She was very malpositioned and just couldn't hatch on her own. I guess I waited too long to intervene, but I don't really like to assist them to hatch unless I absolutely have to. Oh well, on the bright side I should have a good number to get started if they all survive to point of lay. You never know.. like in poor Amanda's situation.

Here is my CL group #2 (two girls, one boy). The girls are the darker chipmunk striped ones, and the boy is the lightest with the head spot. They are temporarily banded yellow until they get toe punched.

They are soooo cute!

They are soooo cute!
Thank you! I am up to my eyeballs in chicks! My son likes to take them for rides in the basket of his little tricycle in the house.

*No harm was caused to the chicks in the tricycle basket*

Here are pics of my three cockerels:

This is Briscoe

This is Ernest the highstepper!

This is Ernest (left) and Otis (right).

Otis' copper hackles look like velvet compared to Ernest and Briscoe. Sorry I don't have a better current pic of Otis. I plan to take better photos of my three boys and girls for critiques this weekend.

Here is Ellie Mae my BCM pullet. She's my best pullet - I wish her copper hackles were more like Gabby but Otis will take care of that for me.

Here is Thelma Lou my Blue CM pullet. She has dark eyes and flop comb.

Charlene is my Splash Copper Pullet but she doesn't cooperate with the camera. I plan to get appropriate pics for my 3 cockerels and 3 pullets this weekend.

Beautiful birds Keith! I'm loving the blue hen! Makes my blue fever that much worse. Can't wait for blue chicks!

My Chicken Ridge Farm group is developing so fast! Not even 4 months yet, and they're already crowing up a storm. Makes for quite the symphony in the morning with my other boys.

I need to start paring down my group before my neighbors start sending hate mail, lol. Any advice on which of these I should keep would be greatly appreciated!

#1 Blade Runner - This guy's comb started out flopping to the side but has since made a serious attempt to stand up. He's the tallest of the 3 and also the most dominant.

#2 Shy Guy - He really lives up to his name, and the only halfway decent shot I got of him today is the one above, with Blade. He's the smallest.

Here are 2 from Dec. 13:

#3 Copper - No feathering on legs, but my Bev Davis girls (Pinky Pie's sibs) have A LOT of feathering. Nicest comb. Almost as tall as Blade and just as robust.

Copper and Blade: (I just noticed some of the copper on their chests almost look like laced feathers. Might this molt out?)

Copper and Blade with Shy Guy in the back. Plus one of my Lav/Isabel/Marington/whatever cockerels in the mix.

Too many boys!!

Gorgeous cockerels! I'm liking Blade the most. But they are all so handsome! And Copper is super nice also, despite his non-feathered legs. Leg feathering is an easy fix, like you said. Just balance him with your Davis pullets with heavy leg feathering. Very nice birds.

Edited to correct my mistake.

Thank you! Since I have a BCM, Blue and Splash I should get an even split of blacks and blues this spring. I'm going to hatch my BCM and Blue separately so the blacks don't get mixed up. I'm hoping to get a couple of nice Blue Copper Marans so I can create more Splash.

Goodnight,
Keith
