International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have a long way to go to understand the genetics of this!

very simple my friend .
her father is a recessive white over a Wheaten based . So genetically he is Ewh/Ewh. s+/s+ .mean he will passe his Golden gene to all his progeny boys/girls .

her mama is a Birchen hen ,so she is ER/ER. S/-. only one copy of Silver . mean she only can passes this single copy to her sons NOT daughters .

when this 2 are matted together they ll give this result .
Because ER is Dominant than Ewh all the progeny are ER/Ewh but they all look ER .( mean blacK)
the pullets will get they s+ from they father ( White Storm ) so they are ER/Ewh. s+/- ,c/C+.Black copper split white ( they carry only one copy of the White gene)
the cockerels will get s+ from they father and S( silver ) from they mother . So they are impure Black copper split white .

when this 2 F1 progeny are matted together they ll produce 25% White, some will be silver based and others Golden based .
I m after the Silver based progeny .

I matted White Storm with 5 hens .his half sister . one Blue copper , .one Black copper and 2 Birchen . trying to spread the white gene over a wider population .so I can have some genetic diversity .

he is nice but not a pure Silver cuckoo double barred .

I don t now what Monique been up too .

he is a single barred impure .
I ll as her what the story behind it .

he is good to use over a BCM to produce a pure golden cuckoo .

do you remember when I told you he wasn't pure silver double barred?

can I use him to create birchen marans? I don't really like yellow, gold, red or similar chickens. I prefer black and white with anything in between or unusual mixed colours.

if I breed jupiter with a red naked neck what colour would the chicks be?

yeah I remember you saying it . you said he had some Golden feathers .and he was darker ..I don t now what happen with Monique ?

any way he still a great asset to breed your favorite Birchen strain .

here how you do it .
1) mate him to Luna and get the F1 .
you will get from this F1 progeny ,=
25% Black copper pullet and cockerels all pure
25% Birchen ,all pullet will be pure silver and the cockerels will be Golden/Silver impure birchen
25% Silver cuckoo .pure pullets and impure single barred cockerels
25% Golden cuckoos pure pullet and cockerels .

Year 2 = select from this F1 progeny the Birchen pullet and the silver cuckoo pullet and mate them to they hatch mate impure birchen to get the F2 .
this F2 progeny will have 50% black copper impure cockerels Silver/Golden and 50% pure Birchen .maybe some yellow shoulder on the boys .
mate the Silver cuckoo pullet to they hatch mate single barred silver/Golden cuckoo and you will get some pure silver cuckoos .

you can do a lot with him and Luna.

I ll be always around ,especially for those who want to recreate any marans variety .

I like the new things .more exiting than the old stuff.

the Original Birchen strain was created by crossing the Silver cuckoo marans to a Black copper marans . than they selected the Birchen and the Golden cuckoo from they progeny .

but the French seem to forgot how they marans chooks come to been in the first place .

good luck to any body how want to recreate they own strain ( variety) good for the breed .

Thanks Chooks Man...... I will have to dissect this slowly. Do you remember this cockerel? He is what started us corresponding in the first place. I guess I should have kept him but man he was one ugly cockerel!

ugly? he is so cute with interesting colours! how did you get him? it would be nice to create marans with that colour.
