International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Yes I have always said, a hen's worst nightmare is a cockerel. They are just big randy immature jerks that chase the hens around when they're young. Like teenage boys. It's funny because when a cockerel chases a hen that is resisting him, he fluffs his back feathers up and runs after her with both wings down like a strutting tom turkey. lol Have you witnessed this behavior in your chickens before? Funny to us, but not for the hen I imagine.

eye candy!

what is the height of the sides of your brooder? I still haven't made any and the chicks are due on thursday. I am considering moving furniture and putting them under the window in my spare room. that way I won't need to move them out, just open the window when they are big enough to deal with the outside temperatures.

All these chicks!! I'm overloading on Maran cuteness

the height of the side of the brooder is 60cm .

the nursery one are 70cm high ,but the Aras chicks they jump over .not civilized chicks like the marans .

spare room is good enough for them .

LOL!! What selfish Marans roosters we have! Our game cocks are extremely good with their hens. They won't eat a bite of a treat until they are satisfied their hens are fed. They even like to go into the nest boxes or buckets, or make nest bowls in fresh straw in their pens and make sweet noises to the hens to encourage them to nest there. Very good roosters. And extremely protective of their hens as well. Cooper, my LA Marans cockerel is sweet to his girls as well. I guess Mud just has some growing up to do yet.
