are you talking about powdered milk we buy at supermarket or powdered milk for birds? it seems that powdered milk for animals is some cereal milk and not cow's. sorry for my ignorance

Hey Chooks Man,

I used a very similar mush receipe when I was a kid to feed out Cornish Hybrids for showing at the County and State Fairs. The only difference is that I added a stick of butter to the mush. The chooks loved it and the mush made their meat tender.

I'm considering getting some blue Birchen Marans to add with my Birchen Marans. I'm thinking that I need some genetic variety since I started with 5 birds, 4 hens and Jake. I've slowly built to 7 hens, but this year I've had problems with hatching my eggs! I've been hatching sex linked olive eggers using Jake over cream legbar hens, with excellent hybrid vigor and nearly 100% hatch, but only one Marans egg hatched in 4 weeks of hatching and it had to be from the cream legbar cock that was sulking around looking for a chance, as this chick had a white spot on his black head. I love my birds, they all came from Rodney Reeves of Georgia, but he has retired from breeding the Birchen Marans and I don't think his line is out there anymore. What do you think? I love the blue Birchen, and I wouldn't have to build another pen to house that color....

seem to me Jake and his ladies are heavy inbred .because you are getting a good result with Jake over a CLB hens.

you need a new blood to refresh your line .

Blue Birchen are gorgeous very rare to find .I m working on recreating them here down under.

if you don t find another Birchen line ,than try to get a Silver cuckoo hens/pullets .that will work nice with for you

I was thinking similar, but needed to run it by someone else to see if I might be missing something. I've got my eye on auctionhttp://www.rarebreedauctions.com/auction_details.php?name=15-greenfire-farms-blue-birchen-marans&auction_id=142021 it goes up regular, so I'll keep trying until I get something. And I have definitely considered silver cuckoo too. Really bring out the pure silver.

you are alright .the silver cuckoo will help you to restore your Birchen line and clear the silver too .

you can run them together too to save the space.

FreenFire farm blue Birchen is stunning . love that color my self .

they line have excess white and white under fluff too .but the silver is nice and clear .
