International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

good luck ,don t forget to post some photos of them when you get them .

Here they are...

I got 20 BCM and 10 Ameraucanas. I got the extra Ameraucanas because the breeder has a different line than the two Ameraucana lines I have now. Can't have too many quality lines to work with. The BCM's are really cool. I love the feathered shanks and feet - they're the only breed I've ever had that has them. Hopefully I'll get a couple of nice ones out of them to breed this fall. They are really a magnificent breed.

So sorry to hear that about your lovely Hercules Jr! I too am not a stranger to bad luck when it comes to Marans. Hang in there and guard Hercules Jr #2 with your life. That is a silver lining at least that you didnt lose him as well.

Thanks. Yep, she gave me all the details on their lineages (2 different lines) so I kept them in separate boxes until I got home and toe punched them accordingly. I'll wing band them later. I always make sure I get the background info on any SOP birds I buy so I can keep detailed records in ZooEasy. I'm new at breeding so I want to make sure I know the details of everything I do in case I need it later. Plus if I sell any birds down the road I want to be able to tell the buyer everything they'll need to know to breed them themselves.

chickengr, so sorry to hear about your eggs. I was very frustrated about most of my marans eggs not hatching, but I guess I cannot complain to much because I did get three. I hope that you get a chance to get some more, and try again. Don't give up.

They are such beautiful birds.
I am waiting for a broody and I will try again. I am also looking for marans pullets but that is risky as people here don't know a lot about marans. they are just brown eggers, might have all possible faults.

Here is Jake's son, Jack. To compare with Jake, he's got better legs and a much better comb, he inherited a nice body, but I saw a bit of gold leakage in the wings. Unlike his dad, he isn't showing parasitic white in his primaries, but he has a few white feathers on his toe. He has a touch of white lacing on his breast nearest the hackle that Jake doesn't have. He's finally filling out nicely. He has a wierd gait sometimes, where he steps really high, I'm not sure what that's about.
