International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Looks like BYC is back up and running! I look forward to hearing what you folks have been up to over the past week.

My chicks are 6 weeks old today so I moved them to their grow out pen. I got an even split of cockerels and pullets, 8 each. They are feathered out and starting to get their copper hackles. I'm very happy with these chicks but they still have a lot of growing to do.

I will be taking pictures this week to share with y'all.

Very cute chicks! How old are your chicks? I have been wondering on the sex of mine. The Marans that I had in the past. The cockerels got big red combs starting at about 2 1/2 weeks or so but not the ones I have now. They are keeping me guessing.

A few pics of my 6 week old BLCM and BCM chicks.

I'm really liking this BLCM Pullet - nice dark blue color and good size. I have 2 more just like her.

This BCM Pullet is starting to show her copper hackles.

This pic really shows the difference between Cockerels and Pullets at 6 weeks.

I'll take better pics later this week.

Here is a pic of BLCM Chick with proper hatch down color (dark blue - minimal white down).

Here is the same chick at 6 weeks.

I'm starting to see some faint copper hackles but it doesn't show up well in the last pic.

finally!

I am praying that I didn't get all cockerels. at 2 weeks old I see big combs although they have different shapes. a year ago I had a late bloomer. so I am just waiting.

the second batch chicks have small combs so far. but they are 1 week old.

it is raining and I cannot take pics right now. a few of them have beautiful down colour, they are almost all black with grey chest and little or no white around the eyes.

They are 6 weeks. Their feathers look very spastic though compared to your 6 week olds
