International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

very nice comb . keep it healthy .don t let him fight when he grow up .keep him with a pullets/hens not the cockerels/rooster . you want to keep that comb intact . because it is gorgeous .well serrated .
he is going to big rooster ,his feet are thick and solid ,sign of vigor .

love to see more photos of him as he keep growing .

chooks man
I'm starting to see cooper in his hackles as well as the ladies. He is HUGE compared to all the others. I'm praying he is nice. He watches out for the tiniest bird, a Buff Rock that is so slow in developing

I'm at day 6 and my Marans hardly have any feathers where my Icelandics that hatched with them all have nearly full compliments of wing feathers already. When will the Marans get full wing feathers?

Also, @chooksman - you seem very knowledgeable all of the eggs i hatched from BCM have feathering on the middle toe as well. I got read the riot act on a facebook group and told to cull them (they are my first and only BMC chicks) how tough is this to correct for? Is there absolutely no chance of a clean toe bird coming from them?

I am not chooks man but I can tell you not to cull them. you need to balance them: breed them with clean/few feathered legs. there is a chance that their feathers on middle toe fall off (happened to my roo).

as chooks man once said: if we cull birds for every single fault our coop will be empty.

OOOH, really chickergr? That's exciting. I don't fancy culling anyone right now TBH. I'm just starting out and i'm in love with all of them. (I do know i need to eventually be practical, but that is in time!)
