International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I'm so glad you think so! I have adored this cockerel from the start. He just stood out and was so much nicer looking than any of the others.
Then that tail kept creeping higher and higher as he got older..:barnie

Despite his high tail, I think he is a lovely cockerel. I will single mate him to his aunt and *hopefully* hatch some decent tailed cockerels for next year. :fl

I may go ahead and catch the hen, newly dubbed #60, and get her cleaned out. I could get an early start on hatching a few from them.

Pardon the rough shape of her feathers, the young cockerels are relentless in their pursuits.

she is great in all the aspect except her comb .
she ll great to pair to coppers son ( need name of his own ) ,she ll correct the tail in the future generation and lengthen the back too .
Copper s son will enhance the body color and ll yield stunning and colorful progeny

Great pairing .
good luck

Snapped a few pics of some of this years pullets that would stand still when I got home today.

This BCM pullet (next 2 pictures) is daughter of Mud x LA hens so she is a blend of Bev Davis, Little Peddler, and Greenfire Farm. There are about 4 of these pullets that look good. The cockerels from this mating all look to be culls.

This next pullet is from my LA line (Cooper X LA pullets). I only ended up with 2 of them, this one and a darker one with very little copper in her hackles.

both pullets are high quality and great type.

the last pullet is she a sister to copper s son or half sister ?.
I noticed that both of them are sired by copper .

I don't care for her comb much either, but she is my best typed hen out of the 3 LA hens I have with the lowest tail. The other 2 have fairly high tails, and are now strictly layers. The combs I can correct after I get a handle on these high tails. :)

I mated Cooper to my 3 LA hens so she could be the cockerel's half sister or whole sister. Considering her tail doesn't seem as high, I'm guessing #60 may have been her mother while one of the higher tailed LA hens was the cockerel's mother. That is only speculation as I don't know for sure though.

Hello Everyone, I have missed you all. I can't figure out this new BYC. Where did my pictures go and my emails? Oh well..... that is what I get for being away so long. I sold 27 chickens today. I kept 9 BCM hens and Antonio! I have been very busy and my chickens have been on the back burner. I was getting 2 dozen eggs a day and just no time to do anything with them so...... I scaled down and kept only BCM. I will try to catch up on the thread..... I couldn't even find it. Chooks Man, Kfelton, KCrandall, chickengr, Braxton missed you all!

My long lost friend, Redbanks! I hope all is well with you and look forward to our chats when you log back in again. I too have been busy so I know the feeling! I have culled hard this year also, even selling most of my Speckled Sussex because I was getting overwhelmed. Glad you kept your beautiful Antonio! I can't wait to see any babies from him and all of your "Gabbys"! :)

I can assure you #60 is not a Dam of the good looking cockerel son of copper .
the pullet yes I agree with you ,I can see the similarity .

you have all the good quality ingredient to make great BCM and BLCM line .
need to focus and be precise .don t let it to chances
knowing how is how in the breeding pen can make a great difference .

Thank you! It will be a long road but I will hopefully improve them with every year.
Would it be wise to breed the cockerel to the pullet (his half sister) also when she gets old enough?
Or should I breed the cockerel and #60's best son to the pullet later on?
