Thank you. Yes, I got her from a breeder in Massachusetts where I live and she got her breeders from Little Peddlar lines?? Not sure if that means anything to you. Cannot wait for her to start laying and see if the eggs are nice and dark.

She is gorgeous!! You don't see BCM Hens with copper ear tufts very often. You should be very proud of her.

Thank you. I've always thought she was pretty but these are my first chickens so I didn't know if the beauty was in the "eye of the beholder"

I m impressed my this fine pullet .
every thing about her is great ( love to see her comb straight and her eyes more orange ) they are not that bad but they could be greater like the rest of her body .

her what I see .
head strong and pretty
comb no bad.
eyes .good .they should be red orange
wattles great , small and round
neck = solid .long and well arched at the top. gorgeously colored ( love the rich copper color ) well flamed at the bottom
body type great 10/10 .long ,thick boat shape
back .long flat .great
tail small ,good form and shape .she is holding it low
chest = strong ,deep and well colored .few coppery feathers in there .
wings .well held close to the body .and horizontal to the ground .
legs = good length . not too tall . strong and well feathered ( too much for my liking ).good color
body color .great pure black

Wow she is stunning!!! You can see in her eyes she knows she is beautiful!!

Here is a few pictures of my FBCM pullet @ about 20 weeks. Not in a breeding program just a pet. Posted pictures of her as a chick. her comb is bent from the front plus has an extra point right at the back

According to the French and U.S. SOP the Marans should have lightly feathered shanks on the outer side of the legs including the outer toe. On this thread we tend to adhere to the French SOP given the origin of the breed. We can use a clean legged bird in our breeding program, assuming no other major faults, by breeding to another bird with good or slightly over-feathered shanks. It usually only takes one maybe two generations to get feathered shanks. The shape of your pullets head makes me think she may be crossed with another breed but ChooksMan has a much better eye for that kinda detail than me.

he is good except his tail and bent toes .
the comb is good for the French Standard not the American one, they call for 5 point

you have to be sure to use him only over the hens /hen with a short thin pointed tail .other wise will get out of control .

I'm not sure if the dark comb / wattles correlates to mossiness. I'm sure ChooksMan will respond to your post. I do know that we want to avoid breeding from birds that have the dark comb / wattles. She also looks to be clean-legged, is my observation correct?

there is not correlation between the Black comb and the mossiness .

Black comb and wattle and caused by the presence of extra Melanin ( Black pigmentation )

Mossiness is caused by access of Red ( copper or gold ) in the plumage .
