International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@Chooks man or anyone
This is Zorro's father. I was wrong about him being Green Fire Farms. He is from Bev Davis/Gene Wade lines. I was wondering your thoughts. I will share mine.
Pro's
He appears to be broad in the front
His legs look fairly straight
He looks to have a short stature, not to tall (my opinion) I have not mastered this yet
He has a fairly short but I don't know if thin enough at the top
Appears to have good leg color feathering seems ok
It is hard to comment on his back because he seems hunched down

Cons
Some straw coloring in hackle
Can't tell much about flame
Can't see eye color or ear lobe color
The comb looks to be to large, to many points, and it flops
Wattle look to large and are not pretty
Not holding wing tight to his body
Does not appear to have any color on his chest
I still have much to learn

no much I can see from this photo .
i ll say he s well colored ( the yellow could be caused by the light if the photo has been taken late afternoon ).
he do have some white feather on his tail ( parasitic white )
the comb is not that great neither bad from the front

Was wondering if y'all could help me here. I know they are blue copper marans but y'all should still know lol! I was told that my chicks are poor quality...was hoping someone could tell me why that is. The first one is a little beat up, he has some blu kote on his head. They are around 5 weeks old btw

you have a very nice BCM pullets ,especially the 2 with a coppery hackle .
they have a type and the body marking too .let see what color egg this girls are going to lay ?
I ll bred from them any way ,they have so much going for them .

my pullets goes with a cockerels as soon as they reach 5 month . 15 pullets to a cockerel , not for breeding just to keep them happy and get used to be with each other .

I ll bred my pullet at a year old or if they are big I wait tell they eggs reach 65g .

Thank you for you imput. It is a bad picture. I see the white on his tail now. I did not know what was going on behind him. It kind of looks like there is a white chicken back there. I see what you are saying. This is the picture his breeder sent to me. If all of that mass of white is on him that is bad. Makes me wonder if I should even attempt to use Zorro. I may be asking for trouble. Thank you for your time chooks man. God bless.

Ck2 is the sire of all the others pictured. Just looking for some opinions on breeding. Ckrl2 's dam lays the darkest egg of the flock.

Dvoice,

Sometimes it's hard to see the true traits in pictures which is why I ask the question. No one knows your birds better than you! I'm happy to hear the crooked toe is not genetic.

I understand the difficulty in selecting a Chooks. I have 8 BLCM Cockerels to choose from - it seems my favorites change day-by-day because they change so much as they grow out. You'll make the right choice. Trust your eyes.

Take Care,
Keith
Thx Keith. For now I think I'll keep just that one. (The other 11 hit the pot next week). I'll see how my next grow out look as they're only 4 weeks old so far but I should have about 14 to choose from. Hoping to keep 2 breeders total.

they are marans but poorly selected .
I tell you why
1) the have black eyes , they should have a blue/green eyes at that age .
2) they comb is black .should be red .

they body type and faces are marans for sure .

@Fanci Feathers Marans . are you saying this 2 photos are the same cockerel .
Wow there is a huge difference between them .the cockerel in the second photo look to me Faultless ( stunning) body type .body color pattern . great tail and every thing else .
the rooster in the first photo look to me thinner and not a good shape . the comb in both rooster is a same.
