Thank you for you imput. It is a bad picture. I see the white on his tail now. I did not know what was going on behind him. It kind of looks like there is a white chicken back there. I see what you are saying. This is the picture his breeder sent to me. If all of that mass of white is on him that is bad. Makes me wonder if I should even attempt to use Zorro. Zoro will be good over the girls .they compliment each other very well .
hatch one generation from him and retire him . replace him him his future son s from your pullets .
they son s will carry they body type and color pattern ( not from the black pullet ).

Don t forget the rooster inherit half of they gene from mama hen too .So saying the photo of Zoro sire is not a full explanation .

they are marans but poorly selected .
I tell you why
1) the have black eyes , they should have a blue/green eyes at that age .
2) they comb is black .should be red .

@Fanci Feathers Marans . are you saying this 2 photos are the same cockerel .
Wow there is a huge difference between them .the cockerel in the second photo look to me Faultless ( stunning) body type .body color pattern . great tail and every thing else .
the rooster in the first photo look to me thinner and not a good shape . the comb in both rooster is a same.

Yes, I took the first picture of him earlier today, wanting to get a better side shot. He kind of humped up and would not show off. It is the same roo. Crazy, huh?

he is good in every thing except the color .
hell produced black progeny if not mated to proper hen .well colored with extra copper on her chest and coppery ears tufts .

great comb . I ll bred him just for that to be honest to you . this sort of comb you don t see them every day .
nice body type ,he still young . the chest area need to put more weight .
love his long back and tail angle
nice feet ,straight ,well colored and feathered .

do no use him over a black hen/hens because he is licking the Autossomal red he ar/ar rather than Ar/Ar.

that 1 white feather can be due to some health issue as well. it seems that your cockerel does not have it. don't discard him too early. he is nice and if you find him a good match you will get nice chicks.

I love every thing in this photo .the cockerel type
his rich red copper
his log flat back
his tail short and thin at the top
well marked shoulders
black plumage is pure black
well colored feet and well feathered
straight legs
lovely head

only his comb need a little tidy up .the points are not harmonious

great photo .every thing is stylish

what is not clear to me how this cockerel will produce Ck1 with a straw colored hackle
what sort of hen he was paired with
CK1 his body color is wrong gold in his hackle and lighter under fluff .
love to see the Dam of Ck1
Pul 1 2 and 3 are too black but nice body type .1 and 2 are the best ( looking from the photos) hard to tell some time .
I ll mate them to they Sire Ck 1 to breed true the body type and reinforce the dark egg color gene . if they turn up too black don t panic . fix one thing at the time .
now you have BCM chooks with great body type and you are saying the Ck1 his Dam lay dark egg .
body type and dark egg are the first to be fixed and bred true . body color come after

copper on the cockerel chest is not bad is actually good . as long as not all the chest is covered . the SOP call for a spotted chest
