International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you! I am so glad I am on the right "page". That is exactly what I was planning to do. I need more pullets who lay dark eggs just like the hen! :D

you have a dark egg genes in your flock .so the pullets are there just need to be hatched .
don t forget only 25/30 % of the pullets will inherit the dark egg genes .study done by the Marans breeding Syndicat .

hatch as many chicks from your hen ( dark egg layer) Really as many as you can .she is an asset .

Thank you! I am thrilled to hear all my hard work hasnt been a total bust. Another breeder friend of mine said a person is lucky to get 1 out of every 9 birds that ends up being a decent keeper Marans to use for breeding. It is very challenging.

10% good is not always a case depend on the line they come from .

the genetic formula is =
best out of 10 is good
best out of 100 is great
best out 1000 is Excellent . that why the commercial chooks breeders have strength

Here are both of the green fire birchen I have to pick from. Handsome (blue birchen) is already a number one pick, but the one with better silver has very little saddle feather so far. What do you think?
They are hatched in March, so there's a while yet of feather growth I suppose...

I will pen her up with her best son as soon as he is old enough. It will probably be winter or early spring before I see any chicks from them. She is one of my best layers also so she truly is a little gem of a hen, despite her flaws. She cranks those dark eggs out like a machine! Lol

Would this be classified a cull due to earlobes?View attachment 1111376

White ears lobe is a disqualify .

I ll work with a hen like here is she the best on type /hackle marking and lay dark eggs .

need to be mated to a roo with gorgeous red face ans red ears lobe , only keep the pullets ( without white ears lobe) from this mating .all the cockerel will be a cull . when this pullets grow up they should be mated to they sire or some one equivalent to him on the face marking .

my rooster BCM Zambezi from the UK import produced a lot white ears lobe progeny with certain hens ( Toby .Narvic and Shakeara )and red ears lobe with the rest of the hens .
so him and some of my hens carries the white ears lobe as recessive .
